I'm on the latest Insider release, but I remember having this issue even before this build. Don't know exactly when it started. I never had it on Windows 8.1 and don't think it started immediately after installing Windows 10 a few months ago. This is on my custom built desktop Download speeds through flash seem fine (so speedtest.net shows 100mbit), But FTP and Bitorrent sync transfers from my server seem capped at 20mbit. Won't go any higher. On my macbook I get 100mbit. I tried downloading from other sites using HTTP with same results (not exactly same but slower in general) so it's not just my server. Using an OVH test file I get 3MB/s down on Windows 10 and 10MB/s on my macbook. Across the board file transfers are much slower and I don't get why. Besides flash speed tests, Steam seems unaffected. What is affected are downloads through FTP, HTTP, and bit torrent. Both devices are connected through AC wifi. I tried ethernet with same results. I tried bypassing router and going to modem. Made no difference. It's definitely not the connection because I just transferred a file between the two devices over wifi and it was going 30MB/s. It has to be something with Windows. I just don't really know how to troubleshoot this. Anyone have any idea?
All my browsers seem to be slower (sometimes even really slow) with Windows 10. Don't see much difference downloading Torrents tho. I think it has something to do with resolving the addresses or some kind of check that takes a long time sometimes.
Are you able to replicate the issue by testing with another device? For instance using reliableservers test file (can't post link), I get 3MB/s on Win10 and 10MB/s on macbook. I reported the issue to MS through the Feedback app and did 'reproduce' so hopefully they have some data. I wast just wondering if there was a possible fix by changing some setting. I really don't want to reinstall the OS
Don't worry it is only the spying info from 10 going to MS servers taking a big part of your broadband.
I have reinstall OS and it did fix the problem for a short time, but it came back. I have tested this on my laptop and my main system, also on on my girlfriends Mac. On the main system running Windows 10 I have 2-3mbit, Laptop 15mbit, on the Mac 15mbit So it has to be in this build of Windows 10. The other build before 10240 did not have this problem.
I use Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Enterprise N LTSB on my old Laptop and both works just fine for downloads. My Internet connection here at Thailand is 30Mbps/3Mbps and the download I get is up to 4.5MB/s continue for both OS'es! I use IDM and mainly download special Movies (TV Series) from Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. So the 4.5MB/s is the maximum I could get with a stable 30Mbps connection! !00Mbps is too much expensive in Thailand (a low-income country) and would cost app. US$ 80.00 a month! For that cost, people have to work several day's (4) or more in Thailand!
Did not notice any difference in term of HTTP / FTP speeds using three browsers (SeaMonkey, Firefox & Chrome) here. I have two boxes one with "Insider" W10 10532 build and my primary with w10 10240. I am on Fiber Optic with 300 Mb/s down and 75 Mb/s up. All synthetics test as SpeedTest or Downloads from fast servers in my country does use the full potential of my line. Disabling the Firewall and Antivirus does not change anything. I got 35 Mo/s down and 9,3 Mo/s . Maybe it can be a network drivers problem. I always install the manufacturer drivers after upgrading.
Omg. Thank you! This worked!! I set it to Optimal and cranked it up to 100mbit. Applied, rebooted. Now I'm getting my full 100mbit from FTP and HTTP. I wonder why my settings got so messed up that this tweak was necessary
You are only speculating. There is no evidence or whatsoever to prove it. However, I'd agree with you if you are talking about the peer-to-peer kind of download process incorporated into Windows 10.
Has anyone tried disabling delivery optimization in services.msc and also disable WUDO in settings app.
