So no one has gotten this to work properly on Server 2016?? any hope of it working RTM has been out (Eval) for some time and ive not heard of anyone getting it to work.
I created and admin account and than created my own user account but I have admin rights is that wrong? whats the proper way to do it?
To add the store, you must be an administrator. I had no problem installing apps through the store using a normal account (once the store was installed).
Hate to be a pain in the ass but this just isnt working on Server 2016 MSDN final released today. I tried Method 1 and Method 3 on the original post downloaded the filed registered etc.. Now when I launch the store (xbox works BTW) but when you launch the store and try to download an app this is what it does. Anyone have any idea why? http: i67.tinypic.com/6jpv0m.gif
Both are way slower than server and make to many calls home. Also I have a valid key for Server from work.
You can try to integrate it on the install.wim using MSMG, then do an in place upgrade (or clean install it, depending on how much you have to reinstall)
There is a store package for MSMG, just like the win32 calculator or the deduplication, not tested myself but I didn't see user complaining about it either.
Maybe its something in the way I'm doing it. did you use the exact steps in first post? Where you logged in as the server admin to install it? did you update the apps once you got into the store? I tried at least 4 times doing things differently and just gave up currently. I think something changed from the first post and those files there offered up for the final.
Don not you understand yet. As Windows 10 also under server 2016 you CAN NOT RUN store under Administrator account. You have to INSTALL store under "Administrator" account with dism or powershell commands BUT you HAVE TO run store under another account than "Administrator". User account forexample "George" CAN be an Administrator on server but his user name can not be "Administrator" Because of your complaint also i thought it not runs under server but i understand now that you do not know to use store. So probably there is nothing to worry about. Unfortunately i could not test it yet.
People who have problems to get the store working on w server, usually has the store itself apparently perfectly working, but unable to install the intended apps. You're talking about something different. There the store wont start at all.
I have no problems installing this on a Single User Windows 10 LTSB 2016 x64 PC, but as soon as I add a new user, the new users doesn't get access to the store (or xBox), I attempted to remove WindowsApps folder and start fresh as this worked to fix any problems on a single user OS, but this was all in vain, I can not recover the original accounts Store access and if I run the Automated script or do them manually in powershell I get a dependencies error, even tho all the ones above it work fine, 3 packages in total fail to Add successfully. If anyone find a way to make Store add itself to any newly created users please let us know how, I spent a few hours, but had to give up.
No No No.. I understand how it works. I installed it as the original administrator account and then used my second profile which had admin rights. under LTSB Workstation it works fine but on the new SERVER release it does not.
Theory (lacking time for anything else) = Go to (open) "Server Manager" Click on "Local Server" IE Enhanced Security Configuration should currently be on, turn it off. I'm not sure if this will have any affect or not, but while playing around in server, I learned a lot of apps were dependent on IE (in full or in part) were problematic with this on. Info: That feature is found only in the server edition and basically blacklist the whole internet allowing only approved sites (even google is blacklisted). Turning it off allows you to use IE normally.
Windows Server 2016 Cliffs: The problem is not with my patch. The problem is Microsoft. Microsoft has turned the store more into a remote service and less to do with what you have installed on your PC. I have no solution. Story: Last night I installed a fresh copy of Windows Server 2016 Standard, updated it, then installed the store. I did every known trick, including discovering an exploit that allowed me to not only use the default Administrator Account but convert it into a Microsoft Account and allow me to run the store as "Administrator" (the actual admin account, which before would tell you that you could not run it as Admin). This allowed me to update the other apps in the package (Xbox, etc..), but not allowed me to install new apps onto my computer that was already in my library. However, it did allow me to install apps using the "Business Store", which is no fun task. You have to shop on their website (not through the store app), then add the app via their website to your "private store", sign in the Windows Store App using your "Business Store Account", and finally those listed under your "private store", you could download and install. Problem: While I could manually add apps this way to be downloaded (which was time-consuming, given all the steps), only some of the apps would install. Particularly apps Microsoft has "approved" for "Business" This is basically where Microsoft becomes a service. Because you, yourself, cannot fully decide what apps to install, as they control that on their end (At least that is what I assume as some apps install just fine and others give you the error that "something happened on their end"). Solution: Trick their "service" (the server on their end) to think you're using Windows Home / Pro. How? Unknown. Someone much more skilled than I must come forward. edit: Anyone who is crazy enough to try to get this to work on Windows Server, you're own your own. I have no plans on supporting Windows Server. re-edit: If you do manage to figure out a way to make store as stable and functioning in Windows Server in the same manner as Store does in Home / Pro, please make your own thread here ( https://forums.mydigitallife.net/forums/15-Windows-Server ) as there people who would like to follow your development. I'd even be happy to link to your development.
