It's not exactly a bug. You have to use the codebox (# symbol) If you don't it splits strings over a certain size. This is why you'll see us telling ppl to use codebox on links and long strings of characters that are not separated by spaces.

Till then you can manually backup activation.... Run net stop sppsvc Copy c:\windows\system32\spp\store\2.0 folder...
So this method still works??????? I heard it doesn't with 8.1. Can anyone confirm backing up this file and installing it on a fresh install will work on 8.1
Yes it works, I've re-installed Win8.1 about 6 times already and all times it has worked. I dont even stop the sppsvc First I input my key : slmgr -ipk XXXX-etc Then I copy over data.dat and tokens.dat into the 2.0 folder, It wont let you overwrite one of the files though but if you try again it succeeds. Then restart and you are golden FYI: my activation was first done by phone

I made a backup for my activation key with MTKV249, then 2 hours ago I format to test, a x86 8.1 but Without Office 2013, installed x64 edition and restoring with the same tool and boom !!!! Activated. WORKS Flawlessly.
Oh you mean a backup of your activation files? To restore them on a new install simply overwrite the data.dat and tokens.dat in the c:\windows\system32\spp\store\2.0 folder. Then reboot or do a bunch of other stuff till it re-reads your system activation files.
i'm still on developer preview and it says this machine is permanently activated.can i backup this activation and validate it on win 8.1 enterprise? tnx in advance
Not possible. More over, WDP is time-bombed & expiry date should be January 15, 2013 (only if you have installed KB2671501).

You can't use your activation files on a completely different system. If you activated that vm and were restoring it on the exact same vm, it would work.
