For OEM machine the backup should work to restore activation offline :D. Do you have the possibility to activate via phone?

Unfortunately I can't, look where I live. But there is a remote posibility to get my Windows 8 activated.

For offline activation, there's always KMS...

Contact the sysadmin and ask him to allow a temporary direct access to get the activation done, but this would take some time.
BTW Im a little worried because the original system came with Windows 8 and I installed 8.1 following some guides claiming it could be done, in short: fresh install Windows 8.1 using Windows 8 OEM : DM key (God help me)

Well, in this case I would like to get the real activation, so a little of patience will help.

Should be no problem, as Windows 8.1 is offered as free upgrade for Win 8 Owners :D. Win 8 Keys are still working on Win 8.1.

Nice, I hope that activation goes well and finally have it backed up and use it offline.

Thanks a lot for the quick answers.

As long as you don't change hardware, the activation backup should work. I myself prefer a Full-Image-Backup :D.

I prefer that kind of backup too, but truste me, I don't have any other storage device than the laptop itself :( fortunately I found this solution.
BTW, what software/method do you follow/recommend in order to get a full image backup?

Oh and tell me if I am a bit off topic too.

Using Acronis from an usb-pendrive here (install is too invasive for me, as it installs loads of drivers and other stuff). AOMEI Backup seems to be a good freeware solution to do the same job.

Backup itself is a Full-Backup in standard settings.

BTW: When i saw where you are located, i tried to imagine what might have happend, if the GDR would still exist. Would i be able to surf the internet freely like now...highly doubt it, but luckily thats speculation.

    Well, that's another topic :D

Surprisingly and quickly the friendly sysadmin allowed me to activate my Windows so I can backup the activation now.

Thank you again for the hints.

Thanks, I think I should go with the free ones, of course, when I could get some other storage device.

That's nice from him...good to know such people :good3:.

From what i heard so far, the AOMEI solution seems to do a quite good job, and this is freeware :D.

...didn´t realize you´re on Win 8.1. Problem is, this guide is for Win 8, but in Win 8.1 MS slighly changed the Licensing. There is now a '2.0' subfolder in spp\store. Not absolutely sure here, if that procedure is applicable this easy.

Btw, from my experience, the best way to swap the Tokens files, is from a lifesystem like Ubuntu. Some tests to do it from inside Windows led to a crippled Licensing.

EDIT: Unfortunately Advanced Tokens Manger from JoshCell, doesn´t fully support Win 8.1. Best bet i see would be Microsoft Toolkit from my signature. It has a backup-license function.

Yeah, I notice the '2.0' subfolder but I did it anyways, of course, unsuccessful results. I do work with Linux, in fact, what I have installed at work is Arch, you say if I use a Linux live-cd, backup the same folder and copy into the fresh system using the same live-cd would work?
I already got Microsoft Toolkit, can I backup/restore activation using that tool?
If not I should make full backup image, but I would like to have this kind of backup too.

EDIT: can't test it right now, I got a fresh install and no activation, I have to wait again for the sysadmin. o_O

    @s1ave77

Both Josh Cell's app & MTK have problems with restoring online activation in 8.1 but restoring phone activation is OK for both.

Was aware of that fact for ATM, but good to know same applies for MTK :good3:. Thanks for the headsup.

Yep, unfortunately it means exactly that :hmm:.
