So they'll probably not mess with the slmgr /rearm as to keep people using windows. Cause people can actually use 7 for free 2.4 times a year if they just re-install. I guess what they'll patch would be the reg change possibilty regarding this code Code: reg load HKLM\MY_SYSTEM "%~dp0Windows\System32\config\system" reg delete HKLM\MY_SYSTEM\WPA /f reg unload HKLM\MY_SYSTEM
I am confused on which app. to use now. Is one easier then another? They look to be the same thing. I just installed WIN7 last night on a netbook and wanna get this method going now. I was going to wait until the free MS rearms run out. But it seems best to use this method with in 30 days of install as stated earlier in the thread.
Yep use it before trial expires and you go into notification and always rearm before trial ends also or have computer on when task rearms and computer restarts...lol It all depends on if you want to click like with GUI or use keyboard like with MD's cmd console GUI vs. Console...lol
I am going to use the method you have in the sig. timesurfer right now on the netbook. But I just wanted to ask this. Once I get it installed and go through the steps you told me. I have decided to manually rearm it myself with in the program. On what day would you advise that? Maybe like around the 28th day? And to be clear. Say I am on my last rearm and using it. I would then repeat all the steps once again to install the program right? Thanks again for all the help dude. Really appreciate it.
I guess at least when it says 1 day to avoid notification so you don't have to go into PE just restart...lol Hope it works well for you. Later dude
That's most unfortunate if they do. I'm not too familiar with this, but does Vista have the same trial period as Windows 7, and if so, do you know how they patched this vulnerability?
To start with Vista never had this vulnerability. This vulnerability has been introduced from 7 only. The WPA was part of XP activation, then they changed the scheme to Software Licensing in Vista and now we have Software Protection Platform in 7. As I have posted earlier that the WPA key contains nothing but the Last Rearm Time in Windows 7.
what do you you mean with PE and RE ?? XD and another question: but can i rearm only 4 times ? then i have to reinstall or what ?? thanks sooo much
Hi, Those things PE & RE are when you boot not into windows but into your install disk or when you press F8 at boot to repair your computer. Instructions are in program...lol lol...It was designed so you don't have to re-install just click install then follow instructions which are very simple Good Luck
F.Y.I It's not necessary to use the Windows DVD .. I just tested w/out the DVD and worked perfectly .. Great Tutorial
timesurfer, I did not want to ask in the thread because I am a bit embarrassed. But I will go ahead for a newbie like myself can learn this stuff more. I feel really stupid for asking this once again. Bare with me. This rearm task program you guys came up with. I just installed Windows 7 Home Premium on a netbook a couple days ago. Am I able to use the free MS rearms that come with 7 first? Which I believe has 3. And then when I am on my last rearm through MS and using it. Then would I run this program? Or does this program need to be run with in the first 30 days of the fresh install?
you only need to run the program when your number is at 0 so then you will have 4 more... then continue the process forever really or until you find another way to activate your machine
@FattysGoneWild Actually the program sets up a task to rearm automatically so if you want that to happen just click install and read in the instructions how to set up task schedular so that if you miss automatic rearm cause your computer was off then at next reboot it will rearm for you. MasterDisaster says if it's past the rearm trial period though it will be in notification so you'll have to click install and start at the beginning of the instructions. Good thing is it only takes maybe 5 minutes once you get use to being in PE or RE. so if you leave your computer on then it will rearm based off of the task created with the install button. If you want to fully rearm then you'll have to follow instructions and reboot into PE or RE which like PAYMYRENT said only needs to be done once every 150 days or at rearm 0 with 1 day left...lol Feel free to use any of the buttons like rearm, or check how many rearms left to keep on top of trial status...lol On a personal note my opinion of this tool is basically no different than what you get with a install of the RTM. 150 days trial with updates and WAT proof...lol This just lets one not have to re-install which is convenient as to not have to re-install programs, etc... I'm guessing this is not too much of a threat to MS since at that moment of reinstall you could choose a different OS and we all know MS wants everyone to be running their OS instead of say linux...lol So if they whack this with a patch update it will surprise me a little...lol
