A friend of mine bought a license of Windows 8.1 OEM. And now he made a clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro with update 1 on his notebook which was running Windows 7 Ultimate activated with Daz loader. . Can he use his license to activate Windows 8.1 Pro, or exists a workaround to activate his Windows with the OEM license?
I read 1º page, but I found only how to preserve. But this Notebook didn´t have any OEM activation before.

What about laptops pre-loaded with Windows 8.1? Will it automatically capture the key from the BIOS if I boot from Windows 8.1 iso?

I got the impression that it was for machines who had Windows 8 pre-loaded and wanted to install Windows 8.1 directly from the retail iso? I'm talking about laptops pre-loaded with 8.1.

Then the setup should capture the key from MSDM table.

Thank you. Has anyone tried this or is this just a speculation?

In opposite to Win 8 nobody can say for sure in Win 8.x (it's kinda picky in this regard). Needs to be tested for every case. Important: gather the key from BIOS first! Even the key isn't captured, it only needs to enter it after Setup and Windows will activate automatically at internet contact. The latter i tested on two Win 8.x notebooks so far.

*) I get 'CoreSingleLanguage' from slmgr.
*) My laptop runs Win8 OEM edition (Lenovo)

    I have to use 'MICROSOFT.WINDOWS.8.1.SINGLE.LANGUAGE.RTM.X64.ENGLISH.DVD-WZT' right ?
Will it automatically detect my license or will I've to use a generic key to bypass it ?

    TIA guys.

    1. Yes, this is right ISO.
    2. You need to generic CoreSL key first.

    :good:

That means activating using OEM key after installation will work :)

Um, so it captured the key when you tested it?

Unfortunately my ISO had an ei.cfg which definitly prevents it from capturing, so i had to enter the key afterwards. Nevertheless it was activated automatically at first internet contact,

i bought a lenovo yoga 13 from craigslist. it is currently running win8.1 pro, which i want to do a clean install of.

    running slmgr.vbs, i get:

    Name: Windows(R), Professional edition
Description: Windows(R) Operation System, RETAIL channel

when i get the OEM:DM key using OEM-DM.exe, then pass that key into online PIDChecker, i get:

    Edition Type: Core
Description: Win 8 RTM Core OEM:DM

i'm confused by what appears to be a discrepancy between pro and core, but i believe the correct option is en_windows_8.1_with_update_x64_dvd_4065090.iso. is this correct?

also, it looks like i will need the generic key during installation. do i use the core or professional key?

lastly, my OEM:DM key will be installed automatically if there is internet available. is this correct?

thanks! sorry about the n00b questions, this is my first exposure to win8

There's a different edition installed from what your license key allows. If you want to use this key then you need to install Core.

    Yes.

Either generic Core install key or Core gVLK.

Only if it was an 8.1 OEM:DM key. Yours is Windows 8, and needs to be inserted manually. Will be activating fine once inserted, I guess.

If you want to keep using pro after you reformat, if it currently has 8.1 then run Advanced token manger and backup your tokens, and restore after formatting.

If it running 8 pro, you can either upgrade via store then do like above, or just save the current key used (you can see it by using windows 8 product key viewer pkui.exe that's available in the app forum, and reactivate after install using slmgr -ipk yourekey after setup completes it will activate online if the key wasn't absused, or will phone activate if it has.
