thank you! worked perfectly. had to look up how to insert the key: "slmgr /upk" then "slui 3" oops, wish i had read that first. i didn't do that. thankfully i don't think i actually need pro edition; i'm not missing it so far. thanks anyway!
Hey guys, I'm running Windows 8 Single Language 64-bit with OEM license on the laptop I recently bought. I wanted to upgrade to Windows 8.1 Update 1 directly, can I use Windows 8.1 ISOs with Update 1 integrated to upgrade directly without having to do a fresh installation?
Don't get into more complex subjects, just take a look at that thread and pick the esd file in your language and x64 architecture.
Well, the thing is, I already downloaded an AIO image with Single Language in it. I'm just wondering if I can use this.
If it is well crafted then yes, but who knows. Besides you need to take into account some other factors that's why I suggested you to pick the esd file. My advise is: make your own Single Language iso then follow this guide at the first post.
in my experience with factory preinstalled windows 8 and 8.1 single language os's,i just grab the product key using advanced tokens manager, and reinstall os using 8.1 update 1 AIO from murphy and insert the extracted key back, and voila,it automatically activated on internet contact...tried on like 5,6 newly purchased laptops..and for novice users ,i recommend getting this iso by murphy,it's an AIO and can be used for installing most of the versions of windows 8.1,you can simply select the version you want to install.."sha 1 - 8E567F1BABDF24A46144BC3BC89A166AEBD5D407 ".
In the first post, the first link to extract the key is infected with adware and more, clearing your chrome settings etc.
i used online pid checker: win 8.1 rtm core OEMM i am currently downloading en_windows_8.1_with_update_x64_dvd_4065090.iso is this the correct version? do i need to run the en-gb_windows_8.1_with_update_x64_dvd-4048142.exe? wasn.t sure about that but dl'd it just incase. its a US sold lenovo laptop for reference and the final step i need to clarify. do i mount the iso to my usb using something like rufus then shutdown the computer with bios selected to disable secure boot to be able to use the USB or do i run the iso after mounted from within my current installation to start the process?
@defyoddz The ISO is correct. You can opt for en-GB ISO if you are British citizen Use Rufus to create UEFI compatible boot drive, then start booting from it. You don't need to disable Secure Boot but may need to disable Fast Boot (if present) to boot the USB.
can you clarify 'then start booting from it' im really new to this and frustrated by how difficult windows has made it for legit user to do a clean install. after the drive is set up using rufus do i double click it to start running the iso or i shut down the computer then turn it on and it will load the usb?
Attach a bootable USB, restart the computer and press F12 during POST Is there an USB option in the boot menu?
Fresh install Win8.1 using OEM Key? Hey guys I'm currently on Windows 8 RTM CoreSingleLanguage, OEM Licenced (Came with Lenovo Laptop). The way to upgrade to Windows 8.1 is through the store but my internet connection is not that fast and I don't want to run my laptop for 12 - 13 hours just to update everything :3 Recently I stumbled across this forum and from what I saw, there seems to be a way to perform the upgrade process by performing a clean install. Can anyone guide me through the process? I have followed the guide that was posted in this forum titled Guide to preserve Windows 8.x OEM Activation and obtained the correct link to the iso for Win 8.1 Although I'm still doubtful if I followed it correctly. Also I had this doubt in my mind that by doing a clean install, is there a possibility that my data in other drives except the OS drive is in danger as in getting corrupted? Or I can easily perform a clean install keeping my other drives intact? Also the folders provided in the recovery partition are safe or not during the clean install? Thanks for reading the whole topic I hope I'll get some guidance to install the win 8.1 over my win 8
