Yo Jinjie can you do the script to enable the dmwappushsvc from within powershell without a reboot? I wanna put that into the powershell script. I'm totally not going to do Wim modification that is an utter pain in the ass to do.
[Edit] Thanks for the reply. Doing the same thing, tinkering around. That wouldn't work in my case because the object of the script is to stop dmwappushsvc without a restart, which i've done. I've partly solved the problem going into programs and features and uninstalling the EdgeCPModel. Now after running my script i only have to go in and delete the All Applications Privleges permissions once to stop the service. I've still got to figure out that last problem. Ran my script, stopped the service. It restarted, and i went into the registry and deleted the All Applications Privleges permission. It rewrote itself and i exited reran the script and the service was stopped without restart. When i do decide to restart the computer the start stop buttons in services.msc are ungreyed and can be started and stopped at will. Installed the new build, and once it was done service didn't restart.
Sorry to say, but without leading capitals for sentences that wall-of-text is a PITA to read/understand .
My eyes are annoyed by this. I'll give the script a try on my VM over the weekend then I may tinker around with it a bit more. I'll be on the road much of next week so there will not be much time to do stuff. That and I really want to play Civilization: Beyond Earth . That being said we need to look into the WMI service in order to take care of the rest of the Autologger services. We need the WMI online because it is responsible for some key functionality int he OS
sorry about that. out of all the post i've written nobody has mentioned that. will keep it in mind from now on. anyways i edited those two posts so maybe i might get a little feedback.
I just finished my office monthly versions so perhaps I'll resume some testing on stuff soon. I'm still very interested in finding the most simple solution to the unwanted telemetry issue. Again, I know it's just a tech preview. I wanna be ready for RTM next year.
A bit off topic, but somewhat appropriate. Here's a quote from one of the privacy software vendor's. " [h=4]Windows privacy settings[/h] Not that Microsoft might collect data with bad intentions to generate and store user data, it is more a feature to increase stability, fix bugs, and improve Windows. However, many of those services and processes can be a privacy risk if you are under attack or someone is spying on you. Many of the Windows services and processes that are used by Microsoft to increase usability and guarantee improvements in the development process of updates, patches, and new Windows versions are not necessary to be active on a daily basis. The Windows privacy settings manager will allow you to disable services and processes communicating with web or data servers. " Have to try it out in Windows 10, just for fun, and see what it come's up with.
This is very true you can disable a great many services in Windows as they are there for development purposes. Typically they just leave those bits there and just default disable them. Don't quote me on that though as it needs verification.
Looks like its been pretty quiet today, so here's a funny story. MS giveth and MS taketh away. Installed the new build and figured i'd just check my script to stop dmwappushsvc. Did a few things and checked task manager and the service was stopped and didn't start. Weird, i still had a few steps to go. Opened services manager and buttons were ungreyed. Did a fresh install to retrace my steps and lo and behold MS gave us control of the service. Which I'm sure everyone knew by now, but I was late to the party on installing the build. Now the question is why they didn't before and now do.
I also noticed that diagtrack and dmwappushsvc weren't running by default. I believe there is still telemetry reporting of events, but whatever those two services did, doesn't seem to be the default now.
On mine the dmwappushsvc still starts, but at least now you can use the stop button. As far as the telemetry, I'm sure they do. I have to check in task scheduler to see if the upload task is there. At least, for now, I don't have to worry about solving the last problem ( not really a problem, just inconvenience ). We'll see on the next build. BTW. Are you running an full administrator account. I am, so if mine starts and yours doesn't maybe MS is segregating administrator and regular accounts, so they get a better sampling on feedback.
Will this STOP / HELP with Telemetry ? C:\Windows\FileManager\Telemetry.dll and RENAME Telemetry.dllNO C:\Windows\zImmersiveControlPanel\Telemetry.Desktop.dll and RENAME Telemetry.Desktop.dllNO C:\Windows\System32\BthTelemetry.dll and RENAME BthTelemetry.dllNO C:\Windows\System32\dmwappushsvc.dll and RENAME dmwappushsvc.dllNO I am using these settings, and i have had no Problems using Windows 10 TP Build 9860.
Sounds good I've been tinkering with it off n on. It's my doodle with thing atm lol. Also keep in mind this will work properly on 9860 n not 9841.
