Let me re-phrase that. I really know now that APUs cannot be used for Win7. But it still is actually a simple question... Who has a desktop with an AMD CPU, and actually has Win7 installed? Preferably without too much prior modification of the OS. Thanks
be more specific in what kind of AMD processor you are talking about, ThomasMann. I have an old desktop PC (AMD Socket AM3+ based CPU like AMD Phenom II X4 955) running Win7 x64 just fine. if you are talking about PCs using recent AMD CPUs like AMD Ryzen or newer, say so.
I am talking about any AMD cpu that works with with 7. I am currently running an i5 4560, and I want upgrade Would the AMD Phenom II X4 955 an upgrade? Also it uses 125 W !!!
All AMD CPUs up to the latest FX ones run Windows 7 fine, even the high-end FX9590 (144W). Of the Ryzens, the ones without Vega graphics are Win7 compatible (I checked with a Ryzen 2700X and the installation went through to the Desktop, finding all drivers is another story). The problem is not the CPU, it's drivers, especially USB. Oh, and, of course you're missing out on the advanced core scheduler that comes with latest Win10.
Thank you, I knew if asked the question long enough, someone will bring the answer to it. Yeah... that core scheduler--- that will be a tough one--- but, at my age it is better to slow down anyway... all I play are MsPacman and QBert.
Yeah, win-raid is a great goldmine when it comes to mass storage drivers, and also combining old OS and modern hardware. The community has even gotten Windows XP to work on latest AMD chipsets by an acpi.sys mod and backported (and if necessary, modded) drivers for modern hardware, i.a. modded AMDXHCI usb drivers to make it universal, thus Intel USB 3 controllers will work.
Thanks, yes, I read about the XP also...and the thought came to mind that probably no one will built a virus to affect xp any more...
After talking to ASRock, I decided to take their advice and keep it simple. I will get an i7 4770.... ...unless someone knows a reason why not...?
