So I have used the 1.9.2 version of Daz loader to keep Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit activated. Something changed recently and windows knows that it is not genuine.

Noticed the Software Protection service running in services even though I didn't ever download 9710333 so I stopped/disabled it and then the next day I noticed the genuine warning.

Going to try to reload the soft-mod but in the event that doesn't work I'm hoping I could get some direction on how and what I need to mod my BIOS.

Have downloaded the MSI k9n modded bios file from the appropriate thread, and also have a "Certs" folder downloaded with XRM-MS files in it.

Can someone please point out if I'm so far going in the right direction?

I"m assuming the process goes something along the lines of install bios mod and then load the cert with slMGR but do I need to uninstall the soft-mod first? do I need to completely reinstall windows before doing BIOS mod? Will the fact that windows has detected it is not genuine affect my outcome?

EDIT: Okay, really weird behavior going on now. I was going to try reinstalling the soft-mod with daz's tool and it didn't work so I figured okay I'll restart and try again. I restarted and now the Genuine Advantage notifier is gone and I was able to update without being informed of activation. What the hell is going on?

    I would leave it alone.
It was obviously just a Glitch on your System.

    It's back again today now.

I have "This copy of Windows is not Genuine" in the bottom right and when I check for updates now I get the genuine notification...

I'm really curious how the Software Protection service got installed if I never installed KB 971033 or has it always been there and I just haven't noticed?

In any case, what do I do now?

Sure enough.. it was installed 2 days ago even though I had hidden it previously...

I will try to pass genuine after restarting again to see if I can get it uninstalled and report back.

EDIT: I have a system restore point from a directx update a day before that update was installed. Would that work?

^ Maybe, it can't hurt to try it.
But I think once you get flagged you probably need to go to the M$ Site and re-validate to fix the problem.

Well I tried the validate thing after getting 971033 uninstalled. It didn't work.

I guess I will try system restore now.

    EDIT:

Tried system restore. Came back and had the non-black background and no notificatoins. Strangely, 971033 was still installed, but it let me uninstall it.

I changed Windows Update to manual so hopefully no more surprises.
