    No prob. :D
Strange that after 1 year he never asked you to update to SP3.

Yes sometimes applications or drivers weren't updated to match the SP3, and detect your OS as an unknown one.
I had that prob with logitech drivers for my wireless keyboard, didn't want to install on XP SP3, but installed on XP SP2.

If you have a DELL or HP PC, yes.
If not you probably won't get past the welcome screen.

You'll find everything you need in the tuto link I gave you before to make ACER XP SP2 or SP3 OEM DVD.
    http://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/7580

    Just follow all the steps.
But I don't think that you can test it on a virtual PC, not sure if a virtual PC can read the bios of your motherboard.

Youcan mod VPC, Virtual Box, and VM ware bios to have SLP String in them...:D:D

The VPC is intel emulation for the LAN.
