Greetings I am having a problem updating one of my machines (KMS activated Pro Windows 8 VL) to Windows 8.1, any help would be appreciated. I cannot update from the store (as expected) and trying to update from any iso I have, it wants to remove everything except my documents. I would ultimately like to update this machine to 8.1 update 1 without reinstall if at all possible. Is there a standalone installer for going 8 >> 8.1? I am kinda stuck now. Thanks for any help, Paul.
VL versions do not get triggered to be updated through store. You need to d/l your version from MDL or any trusted site and install iso over your W8 just like an update manually
Any iso I have tried to install over W8 wants to remove all my applications and only back up my documents. I would rather not reinstall but if its really the only way then I will.
if you have installed your original W8 in English version and installed any kind of language pack over it you need to update your system with same language as was originally installed. then you can keep all your files and everything. Later you can install new lp-pack. If this does not work, something has happened at your end and a bite in the dust is recommended
Google for any win8 leaked retail key and put into your win8, it will break your KMS activation but who cares? You could always KMS activate again after upgraded to win8.1 Update.
Yep, can confirm success. Installed the Pro key from the pastebin and rebooted. Went to store afterwards and got offered this: Spoiler
Tks, slave77, old trick. btw, if you don't see the Store offer, reset the Store cache: CMD(Admin)->enter: WSReset.exe
Would never ever go that way . Was only curious whether the generic key would do the trick ... safest way possible .
I thought some of the familiar names would have a solution. Thank you so much, you have no idea how much time you just saved me. Installing from the store now Thanks again.
