    Hi everyone,

I'm at my wit's end trying to install Windows 7 on my Alienware X17 R2 and could really use some expert advice. I've attempted the installation several times now, but every time it gets stuck at the same point: "ACPI on BIOS is not fully compliant."

I've tried everything I can think of to troubleshoot this issue:

    • Downloaded a fresh ISO image of Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit versions both)
    • Used bootable USB drive
    • Disabled secure boot and fast boot in BIOS
    • Formatted the hard drive with various partitioning schemes (GPT and MBR)
Nothing seems to work! I'm starting to think it might be a hardware issue, but I'm hoping someone here has encountered this problem before and can offer some guidance.

    Additional Info:

    • My X17 R2 has an 12th Gen Intel Core i9-12900H processor and a Chipset Intel Alder Lake-P PCH.
    • I'm trying to install Windows 7 on nvME.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm desperate to get Windows 7 running on this machine.

    Thanks in advance,

Most likely it is not a hardware issue. The problem is your hardware is too new for Windows 7, especially if you are using a standard Windows 7 installation iso.

As noted above you will need to create a more updated Windows 7 iso (including NVMe driver) before trying again.

Your hardware is officially only supported on Windows 10 and Windows 11 (though I believe you already know that).

You will most likely never have a fully booting Windows 7 bare metal install--more power to you if you do. It is BIOS related and done purposely by the OEM.

Even my 8th Gen i5 even with kaby lake updated iso, even with uefiseven, will not boot Windows 7 any longer since my last bios update. and the last bios update prevents rolling back to a previous version on my Dell.

They are protecting you from ruining your new hardware in my opinion.
