I've install MalwareBytes Anti-malware scanner, but its not updating itself as its not allowed an out connection by the firewall. Can anyone please tell me what exe files I'll have to allow in order for MB to access the internet? (I don't want to allow a blanket out rule for all apps).

All you need is mbam.exe thru the wall so it can update. Outgoing only.
Forgot to mention by default the Windows Firewall lets everything go out !

I guess I've installed MalwareBytes, oh ... 100 times conservatively in the last few years. I don't recall a single instance where Windows firewall blocked it.

First thing I'd do if I had your problem would be to reset WFW to default values and see what happens.

Paid version allow to update itself, free version you'll have to do it manually.
