When you buy a new computer now, it will most probably have Windows 7. Dell activate the copy on there with off-line activation? But is you use a program/tool to look for the key on your computer, what will come up? The original OEM key?

    and

What key does the buyer get? If he needs to reinstall the OS?

    :) thanks.

When you buy a retail copy you can activate it up to 5-10 times(Not sure exactly) if you have to reinstall it you will be covered up to 10 times. After that windows will promt you to call a MS automated Phone line where it will ask you questions about your perchace and what not. The fact is the automatic phone method works everytime to get you activated even after you exceed your activation quota. Just do not distribute your key because the activation servers are set up to where if a retail key or MSDN key as so many activations per hour to automatically blacklist that specific key so just use your key for your own benefits NOT OTHERS.

On Dell systems well desktop boxes you get OEM SLP key and a recovery dvd that has key allready in it this key cannot activate online unlike a while back when they would install sytem using SLP OEM key and also gave you an OEM COA key wich you could use to activate online with if you lost your original dvd.
