Maybe you can close this thread, and I can create a new one, with the new info about Microsoft's huge cut in products keys and what people think about that. I think the poll will change now as MS have reduced the keys with 80% and 50%.

Sorry I lost my cool and became confrontational when he said I should not post my comments. I am not the confrontational type but today is the exception because someone rubbed me the wrong way.
I assured you there won't be any response or arguments from me.

I was planning on being legit right around the new year, the technet changes alter those plans. Guess I'll keep using loaders.
Rather than getting $200 from me, they'll get none because of that.

Technet still makes sense for an ordinary person who does not break his machine every day and rebuild it. Image your physical computer, and each activation can last for some months. Buy another subscription after 3-4 years. Of course, that person wants to go the legit way (not that Daz or IR4 is any less legit or effective) Even with 2 keys for std, you get close to 100 activations for windows 7 (all versions) and 40 activations for office 2010. Around 100 activations for office 2007 which for most purposes, is identical with office 2010 except for that stupid backscreen. With Technet Pro, you get 500 activations for enterprise, which basically eliminates the need to put into play the keys for other versions.

If you consider a person interested in just buying a retail boxed set of Win 7 and Office 2010, even then technet is cheaper. In India, a Win 7 HP retail price is Rs. 6000-7000, and office proplus costs Rs. 25000. Technet is a lot cheaper than that and with a lot more number of activations.

Nothing wrong in buying a MS product just as there is nothing wrong in finding other ways to use it (I have done it for a long time).

Yes, Technet is still a good deal, if you see the number of activations (not the number of keys) and compare it with retail prices. Where do you get 20 activations for all Windows desktop products, and 500 server activations for only $199? If people stop thinking 1 key = one computer/activation and stars counting 1 key = up to 10 computers, Technet is still a very good deal.
Not so good like before, but still, you get much value for your money, and you still have access to download all the .iso files in every language you want. 100% clean, direct from MS.
Technet Pro gives best value, since it has the Win7 Enterprise MAK key, with 500 activations. So you're little short on Office licenses, but still 50 activations for ProPlus and 50 for Standard (2010) and 50 for each version of Office 2007.

Technet is indeed a good value. In USA, one copy of OEM Windows 7 Ultimate is $249 and Office 2010 Pro Plus retail is at least $399 or $499? If you add the 2, one can even subscribe Technet Pro + Media is still cheaper. Perhaps I misunderstood the 2 Keys for standard and 5 keys for Pro. Let's talk more about Technet standard. What does it mean by 2 keys? 2 keys per program for programs offered to standard subscriber? 2keys for 2 programs only?
Appreciate if you can elaborate. As I already posted that Technet site under benefits did not talk about number of keys or number of activations.

You guys are better and more effective salesman than M$. When I subscribe, it will be PRO.

    (OP)
sofatiger51: 2 keys (or 5 for pro) means this:

    Office 2010 Standard - 2 or 5 keys.
    Office 2010 Proplus - 2 or 5 keys.
    Windows 7 Starter - 2 or 5 keys.
    Windows 7 Starter N and KN - 2 or 5 keys.
    Windows 7 Home Basic - 2 or 5 keys.
    Windows 7 Home Premium - 2 or 5 keys.
    Windows 7 Home Premium N and KN - 2 or 5 keys.
    Windows 7 Professional - 2 or 5 keys.
    Windows 7 Professional N and KN - 2 or 5 keys.
    Windows 7 Ultimate - 2 or 5 keys.
    Windows 7 Ultimate N and KN - 2 or 5 keys.
Windows 7 Enterprise - 500 activations only on Technet Pro (One MAK key = 500 activations) This MAK key also work on Win 7 Professional.
    Office 2007 Standard - 2 or 5 keys.
    Office 2007 Enterprise - 2 or 5 keys.
    Office 2007 Ultimate - 2 or 5 keys.
    Office 2007 Professional - 2 or 5 keys.
    Office 2007 Professional Plus - 2 or 5 keys.
    Access 2007 - 2 or 5 keys.
    Access 2010 - 2 or 5 keys.
Windows XP Home Edition - 2 or 5 keys.
Windows XP Home Edition K - 2 or 5 keys.
Windows XP Home Edition KN - 2 or 5 keys.
Windows XP Tablet PC Edition - 10 keys.
Windows XP Professional - 2 or 5 keys.
Windows XP Professional Edition K - 2 or 5 keys.
Windows XP Professional Edition KN - 2 or 5 keys.
Windows XP Professional x64 Edition - 2 or 5 keys.
Windows XP Media Center Edition - 2 or 5 keys.

You understand that 2 keys = Technet Standard and 5 keys = Technet pro? So we are clear on that.

    2 keys = 20 activations
    5 keys = 50 activations

All other software gives you 10 keys. Or ONE MAK key with 500 activations (Server 2008 and R2) and 100 activations for Vista Enterprise (only on Technet Pro)

At least, I subscribed to Technet Pro not because I am a salesman for MS but because I found it good value in my perception (cannot blame me for that).

As to your query, with Pro and current changes, for

windows 7: you will get 500 activations of enterprise, 100 activations of ultimate (50 activations of ultimate 5 keys *10 auto activations per key, 50 activations of ultimate N). Add similar-styled 100 activations for professional, home premium, home basic, etc. You will never get down to that with your bank of 500 activations for enterprise

office 2010: 5 keys per version or 50 activations each for proplus and std. Total: 100 online, and some more thru phone.

office 2007: at least 250 activations across all products.

Similarly large numbers for Vista, XP, etc. Suffice to say, plenty even if you activate every week and plan to stick with windows 7 for the next decade and office 2010 for the next 2-3 years. Say 1 activation per week. So windows 7 technet pro gives 800 activations till home premium level, which is 800 weeks or more than 15 years. By comparison, in 1995, windows 95 was just out. Technet std gives 300 which is like 6 years at 1 activation/week.

    Server 2008 R2: 1 MAK for Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard and Enterprise (VL Build and regular) good for 500 activations;
Windows HPC Server 2008 and Windows Web Server 2008 R2: 1 MAK for VL and regular good for 500 activations.

Suffice to say that enough for wildly insane use.

The Daz/IR4 tool works as well, and technet makes sense if you plan to buy MS. For buying MS, there is no contest between technet and retail. Hope this makes you realise that this statement does not imply that someone is a fan of MS. The only inference justified is that if you plan to spend, buy technet. Both Std and Pro are lot better value than buying retail from a shop.

As to media, now that does not make any sense at all. Just download the iso, and burn it to a 20-30 cent DVD. If you are so finicky, throw away the burnt DVD afet 5-6 installs and burn a new one. I would say burn 2 copies of each version, so if one goes bad during install, you have more than your p....k in your hand. Why pay $300 or roundabouts for a stickered (albeit high quality) media. Trust me, the bits on it are the same as the iso on technet or on mydigitallife. 100% the same.

N version is as good as regular version. To make it regular version, just download and install the media component from MS.

When I said you guys are better and more effective salesmen than M$, it is a compliment from me. Yes both of you are right on. Technet is not only good value, it is a bargain of the century considering that you don't have to worry about M$ WAT or Office Activation or any future M$ dragnet programs.

    @myhken,

1 key has 10 activations. Is it allowed for 5 computers with 2 activations each? Is it 1 key for one computer only. The reason I asked is because I have 3 desktop and 2 laptop computers at home.
All I know about Microsoft software OEM windows is tied to a specific machine and full retail windows is not. But still 1 key per computer. Is Technet key different?

Good for you to post a link to the MS statement which has cleared somethings. Things have been made explicit by MS.
Perhaps MS wants people to move away from Std to Pro.
