It will likely be the same song and dance this time, though it seems some of our reversers like nosferati87 may be ahead of the curve this time vs Windows 8 RTM. It doesn't sound like much has changed, and I am definitely looking forward to KMS V6 working. I need to figure out the Backups case, and that is going to hinge on whether or not I can get an activated WMC install in my possession.
I couldn't get any of the methods to work to activate using my legit Windows 8 Pro + WMC key until now. I saw that some mentioned some strange problems when using that posted data.dat file but that's the only method that actually worked for me. I had a Windows 8 Pro + WMC install and upgraded using the default key (Pro), then used the default WMC key to upgrade, copied over the data.dat, put my key in with slmgr and activated over the phone. It worked like a charm and it didn't even ask me how many PCs had it installed.
once i got it activated noticed i can now select to have my rotating desktop pictures on the start menu as i tried stardock 8 and it didnt work.>right click on empty space on taskbar.click properties.click navigation tab.click in box show my desktop..........then click apply.ok. if anyones interested or didnt know about it.
Make sure you save your spp folder, cuz that's not gonna happen again. Yen laid the smackdown on data.dat sharing...
here is my Q ^^ , if i use a retail key to activate and after that i disable the update check , am i safe from blacklisted ?
It does NOT say you are running a non-core edition. It gives instructions which, if you will follow them, will give you the real error message.
that's not the pastebin bulldog thinks it is. there is one referenced somewhere around here where people are sharing retail keys. Where or how they got them I do not know.
Ok, so I have a new Windows 8 Pro retail OS coming tomorrow from school, and I want to know what steps I need to take to activate 8.1 PRO-WMC when it arrives. I already have 8.1PRO RTM installed w/o WMC but not activated. Thanks to all.
I did this: -Used the retail key to upgrade to PRO-WMC, -Changed the key to my "free WMC" one, using the command line. -Disconnect from the internet and called using my phone to MS (Skype didn't work) -Successful activated Win 8.1 =)
i have one legit windows 8 retail license but want to install on 2 of my computers. what do you think is safer for a permanent activation? a) one computer with 8.1 pro and activate with my legit license , for the second one copy my own data.dat over and upgrade to free WMC key and activate 2nd machine by phone b) for the second machine use someone elses data.dat with my free WMC key. Has MS ever blacklisted a retail key just because a consumer installed on two of their own computers at the same time?
