[How To] Activate Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center RTM

    i have one legit windows 8 retail license but want to install on 2 of my computers.

    what do you think is safer for a permanent activation?

    a) one computer with 8.1 pro and activate with my legit license , for the second one copy my own data.dat over and upgrade to free WMC key and activate 2nd machine by phone

    b) for the second machine use someone elses data.dat with my free WMC key.


    Has MS ever blacklisted a retail key just because a consumer installed on two of their own computers at the same time?

    I just installed 8.1 with a provided key, and then switched to my legit key (had to do phone activation) and that worked without issue
    Then I just added the media center feature back with my valid key, and after a restart it worked like a charm. I'm assuming most of the issues are coming from clean installs. My install was simply an upgrade. All is working great for me now.

    Is the best thing to do to upgrade from a previous activated win 8 install and then apply wmc and activate again
    or
    do a clean windows 8.1 install and apply wmc and activate?

    hey guys!

    I have another question regarding WMC!

    I have Windows 8.1 Pro x64 with WMC activated, now can I backup the data.dat file and install W8.1 Pro x64 on my Dell Desktop & paste the data.dat file? Will it get activated then?

    Guys, my Win8 upgrade key was bought in the UK Microsoft store and free WMC key was also received me being in the EU region. While following the tutorial in the 1st post, on step #5 where I need to enter my WMC key, I received an error, something related to a region.

    So does this mean that I need to wait for the European RTM "N" leak?
