Just one more question coz Morpheus is calling me urgently (Im short-sighted and too many desktop causes me both headache and sleepiness):

Is it supposed that KMS V6 protocol will help in activating Windows 8.1 (clean install with no Windows 8 keys available at all)?

If so is it, again, supposed, is it just a matter of time before the KMS V6 will be available over MDL?

My next reply, if any, after at least 8 hours from now.

i upgraded from a windows 8 with a free WMC key obtained from Microsoft. Now after installation i upgraded to windows 8.1 with wmc using one of the keys from here. Now where i try to enter my (legitimate) key via cmd i got this:

 

you can't use the free WMC key for activation at the first try. You have to activate it before adding the WMC features (at Retail level) then add the WMC feature using your free WMC key.

 

Interesting, so far i faced that error only when doing a fresh install from a created ProWMC install media .

You are confused a lot...And for your kind information, i am not that type of person who spreads or distributes malware...So i don't know why you are blaming me...but i never want to screw someone's pc with any information circled by me.

What steps did you take with your retail keys, WMC and Product key included?

Whenever you get this error, go to command prompt and type:

This will show the actual error being reported, click details and it says: The Software Licensing Service determined that this specified product key can only be used for upgrading, not for clean installations.

I got this same error yesterday. I had started with a Win8 ProWMC with gvlk (KMS) activation which was upgraded from a Win8 Pro with gvlk. I upgraded to Win8.1 Pro with the gvlk, upgraded to ProWMC with its gvlk, then attempted activation with a legit 8 ProWMC retail key.

This evening, I upgraded my main desktop at home. I had to install Win8.1 with the generic retail key, then activate with my purchased Win8 Pro retail key, finally installed ProWMC with my WMC free-promotion retail key. Both activations were successful instantly.

 

to fix this,download the WMC activated data.dat file you see around in here,place it in spp/store folder,restart and enter your genuine WMC key,it worked for me..

A couple of newbie questions:

1) Why does telephone activation work but slmgr.vbs -ato doesn't?

2) What's so special about THAT data.dat file, compared with a legit file from any Windows 8 Pro PC?

3) Can only WMC codes that were successfully used before the MS fix earlier in the year be used this time?
i.e. are unused codes and those that failed after the fix now worthless?

 

I try activate Windows 8.1 Pro Media Center many times but it doesn't work.I must reinstall Windows couple times because after installing Media Center you can't roll back to Pro.So,I think better to activate Windows 8.1 Pro(without Media Center).But you can try,someone already activate Windows 8.1 Pro Media Center

I activate Windows 8.1 Pro Media Center.
Note: You need 2 keys for Activation Windows 8.1 Pro Media Center (retail):
1)First key for installation.
2)Second key for activation.

From within Windows 8.1

Created a new folder

c:\wmc
within this folder i created a further folder called "MOUNT"
copied the install.wim file into the c:\wmc folder

I then mounted the original windows 8.1 iso

To f: (virtual dvd drive)

Then i Opened a command prompt (admin)

copied and paste this command to mount the image:

DISM /Mount-Wim /WimFile:c:\WMC\install.wim /index:1 /MountDir:c:\WMC\mount

Copied and paste this command to enable netframework 3.5:

Dism /image:c:\wmc\mount /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:NetFx3 /All /Source:f:\sources\sxs /LimitAccess

Copied and paste this command to enable Windows Media Centre:

Dism /Image:c:\wmc\mount /Get-TargetEditions
Dism /Image:c:\wmc\mount /Set-EditionrofessionalWMC

Manually copied my tokens.dat & data.dat files to: (I copy both tokens.dat and data.dat from my activated copy of windows 8 pro rtm with technet key & free media center key last year)

c:\WMC\mount\Windows\System32\spp\store\2.0

copy and paste this command to injecy my Free WMC key:

Dism /image:c:\wmc\mount /set-productkey:*****-*****-*****-*****-*****

nb *** replace with your key.

Copy and Paste this command to commit the changes made:

Dism /unmount-wim /mountdir:c:\wmc\mount /commit

imagex.exe /flags "ProfessionalWMC" /info c:\WMC\install.wim 1 "Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center" "Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center"

Open up windows 8.1 pro with media center iso with ultral iso and go to sources and copy or drag the file "EI.CFG" (you will find it
from windows 7 on my digital life forum) and save it. Burn ISO to USB stick (you need at least 4GB) I use 8GB stick.

Finally, (make sure u disconnection everything wifi, ethernet as u don't need it until installed is completed.

installing windows 8 on your pc, choose windows 8.1 pro with media center and click next to accept agreement terms,
it will continue installing on your pc and windows will be let's start to desktop. Check system information. It activated!
It won't ask you for any product key. You now have a fresh copy of Windows 8.1 pro with media center on your pc that it already activated.
No need to phone Microsoft or online to activated. It including working Net Framework 3.5 as well.

Enjoy it.
