Why wouldn't it work? What matters is that the system can see the files - nothing else.

This is not a new trick, but an old one. Dism itself is part of the Windows PowerShell scripting language, which has been part of Windows since XP (desktops) and 2003 (servers) - it's just so poorly documented on the desktop or cross-Windows side, the uses for WPS in general (and dism in particular), I would wager that anything that can be done by Programs and Features in Control Panel can also be one via a dism-driven script - it's certainly proving to be the case on the Server side with Server Manager (where this particular script originated - specifically, with Server 2003). I've used it with ISOs mounted using nothing more than what's included with Windows.

It is why I've been griping about the poor (more like AWFUL) documentation around Windows PowerShell as a whole, but ESPECIALLY non-platform-specific usage. (That is something I blame Microsoft and specifically Microsoft Press, he corporate documentation arm - for.)

    Code:

No worries, I speak much better French.
It is you who do not know how to use Google translate.
It is always smart to criticize those who do not speak English and you do not want to admit that I install Windows VUP smoothly. NET

You do not want to admit that non RETAIL OEM versions are activated via the internet.
    It's not my fault!

A friend FRENCH translate a text in English understandable if it bothers!

This errors appears when doing it via 'Turn Windows features on or of'. This only checks for the online files on WU.

The error confirms that these files are not available that way atm :smartass:.

LOL...but thanks anyway. Have no problems as i use to enable it already offline inside the mounted WIM :D.

Believe me, none of my 6 Test Machines lacks this feature. Only one snapshot left without, to test when MS starts to offer the files via WU.

I got completely lost in this thread. Tried a few methods to activate my Windows 8.1 Pro, then got it upgraded to Pro with media Center.

My question is: where can i get that data.dat mentioned in the first post?

#1. As the .NET files are not offered by WU, you cannot do this online, PERIOD! Go read about DISM syntax before posting misleading comments.

#2. Due to the fact you can only activate Retail keys so far...obviously all are activated Retail systems.

#3. Have Pro and ProWMC installed here with different keys.

The ProWMC are installed in three different ways:

    • Pro install than VUP to ProWMC
    • ProWMC install from ISO with WIM prepared with dism to enable the WMC
    • ProWMC install from ISO prepared in Audit Mode for the VUP, than captured afterwards

Unfortunately this file cannot be shared here publicily, as it contains activation relevant data.

I got a question on the method of activation with the free WMC Key.

    Here's my scenario:
Windows 8 activated with MAK key with UK Phone Activation
I registered for the Free WMC Key with that MAK Key
I tried inputting my new WMC Key staight out no phone activation and activation failed
I have since reinstalled and reactivated with original MAK Key UK Phone Activation
Windows 8.1 - I am planning to do a upgrade install on existing Windows 8

Now if I follow method one and activate with my WMC Key by UK Phone Activation, do you think it will succeed?

Just for the reference, the method in the first post did not work for me.

Even after playing with data.dat, I still am unable to use my WMC upgrade key. It still gives the "non-core" error.

P.S. Oh, and I screwed up my Office 2013 installation :(

Sometimes messing with Activation Tokens, aka switching data.dat, will lead to fubared License Service.

Try starting sppsvc manually via Admin CMD:
    Code:
    net start sppsvc
In case it shows error, only fresh install will help.

When changing do in Safe mode. And make a restore point before doing too. As always backup. If is screws up just system restore. If still messed up try putting old files back. If still messed up then restore from backup. :p

What i have done is installed Windows 8.1 Pro and upgraded to 8.1 WMC with upgrade key. Then i made sure all drivers were installed and just made a ghost copy of the HDD to a spare one i have laying about and never use. When i want to reinstall Windows all i have to do is wipe the HDD with the windows i wish to reinstall on then copy the backup from the spare HDD i have (made it external to make it even more easy).

It actually makes installing quicker :p just a matter of connecting the external HDD and copy stuff over with 2 clicks and bam its all setup and ready to just add some programs.

Well it is too late for me. I will do clean install of Windows 8.1 now. I've always loved clean intalls rather than in-place-updates anyway.
Too bad I lost my Office 2013 activation though. I wish I backed it up.
