    You NEED a RETAIL key, there is NO other way YET!

    Google, but most are blocked or used up, gonna have to wait for the braintrust to come up with an answer

    But you were upgrading from pro genuine retail activated? or pro default key??

    Just any retail key won't do. 1st of your trying to use a core retail key on pro, second your just spinning your wheels as the keys out there are blocked or used up. I have the same problem, listen to me, you're wasting your effort, you're gonna have to wait, like many many of us.

    How to activate from clean install? I have no keys.

    Just installed Win8.1 Pro clean on a Win8 Pro-licensed laptop. Key failed on install, but I could skip it and get to the desktop. I used RW-Everything (Portable) to read the firmware key, then entered that in the activation panel. It activated and seems to be fine.

    I am utterly afraid to try upgrading (clean installing) on my main not-win8-licensed gaming rig with freebie Media Center so backing away slowly for now.

    You can't without a GOOD retail key, you must wait and continue to follow in the days to come. There is no other solution, YET!

    I must be one of the lucky one's I installed windows 8 pro using the install serial no from here then in control panel I changed it to my retail number and rebooted and all was well :biggrin: so I thought for s**ts and giggles I would try my wmc key I used on windows 8 and it installed and worked so now I have a windows 8.1 with wmc :biggrin: yea and no problems.
    P.S. I did an upgrade not a clean install saved all my files and personal inf
    Spoke to fast after a restart it was deactivated after inputting my WMC key it installed WMC and said it was activated and looked great but after restart it wasn't and no mater what numbers I input it wouldn't activate again, good thin I do a lot of full backup's im good again on 8 so I will leave it alone until october

    Oh my goodness and oh my dayum.

    From s1ave77's pastebin I tried 15 keys, called MS 15 times, just got one that activated.

    I was beginning to lose hope ><

    Yeah..you´re right, my bad...i used one of my keys in a first attempt. This time i used the Default keys and its working :good3:.
