Would be interesting to see if b14383 and 14388 will be actually updated or not. Given they are not timebombed could be a good way to have a stable system, at least for a reasonable amount of time.
You can use reasonably safely even XP providing you have the firewall setup correctly and a decent browser. Hopefully the real big holes tath exposed win2k and xp to external threats w/o any user interaction are long gone. And even in such cases a good firewall was enough to stay safe. So unless an unlikely big hole would be discovered an OS released "yesterday" will be more than safe possibly for years That said "stable" and "safe" aren't synonyms. Often is preferable to have a stable system, rather than having it fully upgraded and having to pray it will reboot the next time. There's a reason if hardly Arch linux is used on production environments although is by far the best linux out there.
This worked perfectly, thank you dobbelina after a week I got a notice from WU that I had WU downloads waiting in my W10 v1511 & I can choose which I want if any of them. There was a CU waiting but not the CU KB3176929 that I wanted to stop from auto installing. Think I'll keep it setup after these good results
sarcasm? Me, after seeing problems others having w/ the ANN. Update I want to hold off for a couple of months on the Main Rig/Main W10 OS until all has settled down & any glitches/Bugs are worked out. Spoiler So far on the test rig2 & extra W10 OS on main rig the Ann Update installs have been fine so far.
It still seems to work. I had no change in Update Behavior on yesterdays updates. Got the message and NO automatic was started. Just used gpedit, nothing else.
interesting new in 1607, if you disable AU in registry, the option to update other microsoft products is greyed out, only way to enable it is to reenable AU
Use the Windows Services to do that and it won't require you scrambling through the registry to enable it.
Do not bother, there are tons of ways, how to disable WU, but people keep insisting on using the one, that does not work. Is must be "the thing".
Did it again, right now. I got the message that an update for Excel 2010 is available and had to start download & installation manually. Exactly like it shd be following the rules I configured in the group policies using gpedit.msc. It seems still to work, even that red remark on the update menu is gone. My system is Win10 Pro 1607
