You also can - you only have to switch, by context menu. But okay - some like it - some not.

I have complete disable UAC - this nervs me the hell. So - no problenms at all.

In one case, you're right. But many people don't want to install 3rd-party stuff for every little "fart". And if you use pc-machine or notebook without touchscreen, metro ui isn't very useful. Not without reason, the request for start button is so large.

Modern UI is not the only environment of Win8. And poeole who hate Win8, they mostly hated becuase of modern ui. After all, this would be the reason, why win8 would never be an OS for companies (at least not in short time).

    Sorry, for my poor english!

That's a security risk which bothers some people.
I think you're looking at this it wrong way. You say buying a start menu involves a bit of "farting about", but providing and hacking up system files is a lot more involving. And you can't access metro at all without then re-enabling the default shell. Buying Start8 or using one of the lesser polished free solutions, however, achieves the same result (a start menu) with little effort and no side effects.

Like I said you need the new UI to test that your software works with metro when you're a developer.

MS is forcing the new UI though. They want developers to create applications for it and they're even releasing Windows RT which does only have the one UI.

I use Brain.exe and chance it, before I get a lot of these nag-pop-ups.

Have you ever looked more closer to this "hack"?? There was nothing realy hacked or patched.

I am not realy a developer...and I use Win8 only for the better performance to Win7. Otherwise I like the Win7-Look (Aero etc.) MUCH(!) more.

With that patch, I have Win8-performance and some Win7-Look - for me, perfect. If I had sidekicks or other problems, relating that patch, I would not use it. But - as I told - for me it's more than perfect and by the way, nearly 10 seconds faster boot time...(because modern ui wil not be loaded).

Maybe! But companies need a OS where their staff is able to work active & productive and not "klicking colorful pictures". Some big companies today even work with XP! Why? Rock stable, staff knows it and how to work with it and no conflicts with older hardware etc.! Next step for companies will be Win7 and maybe in ~5 years Win8. Or it will be skiped, like Vista...depending on, what will be released after Win8.

    How to use Windows 8:

1 Aim at corners until you memorize what they do (damn simple)

2 In metro, click "desktop" to use your computer like it was in Windows 7, also you can go to the next step which takes place in the new interface too

3 To search something, just type in its name and the os will find it (it can show up automatically depending on its category: programs, configuration, etc)

4 You can customize metro. I did delete some ugly apps, and transformed metro in a huge "start menu" with all my programs on it.

The hardest thing to do in Windows 8 is using the fullscreen IE, its a bitch. The rest is easy to learn, it just takes a few minutes.

You're still missing the point though. To use the Windows 7 shell you have to provide the files from Windows 7. You then have to run the program which "patches" things up so that it works correctly on Windows 8. So doing that you have to first have Windows 7, be able to copy the files (look at the apps thread, surprisingly some people find this hard to do), run the program and then you lose access to Windows 8 features (metro) and you break toast notifications and other little things. So why do all of that when you could install a start menu and have the same functionality with nothing broken or modified?

Your original argument was that it's harder to install a start menu, which I've proven is false as it's less involving and easier for people to do without reducing security or changing anything.

And you may be right that you can use some brain, but then how do you know which applications are running as admin and have full access to your system? Recommending people to disable UAC is not a solution because not everyone is technically minded and that's exactly how people get infected.

    @ supisiche
For many it's not learning to use Windows 8. We know how to do that. What we want to do is stay in the desktop environment and not have the start screen cover up all of our work and take us away from the desktop experience.

Ok Daz. Maybe Microsoft should add some transparency effect to the new interface so you can still see what's going on on your desktop (example: a web browser showing a YouTube video).

Start8 originally didn't look like the Windows 7 start menu so I approved the thread to use the Windows 7 shell. I didn't say that that solution was better though. I said that maybe it'd be better if he tried to use explorer from a leaked Windows 8 build as that wouldn't break the Modern UI (metro) like his current application does.

From my previous tests Start8 did directly boot me to the desktop. When it comes to the boot time though I'm honestly not that bothered by it as I've never cared about the boot time a great deal. I mean you say you boot to the desktop in a much shorter time, but then the desktop is still loading services and applications in the background anyway. What difference would 10 seconds or less make, you know? :p

As a software developer I know that users will use whatever solution is the easiest for them to apply. So will some people buy into Start8? Yep. And them that don't will just wait for a cracked version or a keygen.
