Thanks for making me aware of the August 2022 ESU LPP (KB5016891) update which was released 2 days ago. I did a test clean install today of Windows Vista Business SP2 64-bit. KB5016891 worked fine and did not break Windows Update and did not generate a C8000266 error message. A total of 209 Vista updates and 68 Server 2008 updates were detected and installed. The current SMQR needed to be manually installed because Windows Update did not detect and install it. I am waiting to see if the same thing happens on the next "patch Tuesday". The guide in post #1 has been updated to reflect the new changes.
Latest ESU Licence prep update doesn't break Windows Update for me. But it still doesn't offer me any ESU Security Monthly Quality Rollup unfortunately, so doesn't really make a difference to me whether it's installled or not.
It seems that the things fall apart when intalled in conjunction with office 2010. Is there any guide available about installing together with Office 2010?
I haven't used Microsoft Office since the Windows XP SP3 days. I personally don't know if Microsoft Office 2010 will install and work in a computer that's running Windows Vista SP2. Someone else here will need to answer your question.
Office 2010 is the first version of Office to ship in a 64-bit version. It is also the first version to require volume license product activation. Office 2010 is compatible with Windows XP SP3 32-bit, Windows Server 2003 SP2 32-bit through Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016. It is the last version of Microsoft Office to support Windows XP 32-bit, Windows Server 2003 32-bit, Windows Vista (SP1 and later), and Windows Server 2008 as the following version, Microsoft Office 2013 only supports Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, or later.
Thanks, Carlos. I've obtained and saved the new root certificate for my Vista files. And I've edited the webpage link in step #5 of the guide.
With the reference to this thread, answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-update/updates-not-working-it-has-been-searching-for/92cd6922-17f6-4730-b46b-91a480b95dd3?page=2, I managed to figured out the problem. Once Office 2010 SP2 is installed, KB4493218 and KB3017810 shall be installed before checking post-SP2 updates; otherwise the update will hang again. I install the Office updates before patching for 2008 and everything seems to work fine now.
I just checked the former download link and got the same result you did. Thanks for making us aware of it. There is now a new download link in step #21 of the guide which works fine. By the way, that tool is not infected.
Hey! I've been following this guide and it's been working great so far, thanks! However, I've reached step #30 and the file dotNetFx4_ESU_Bypass_Vista.7z is asking for a password to decompress. I've tried looking around trying to find it to no avail. Could anyone point me in the right direction?
Yes, that was it! Thanks! EDIT: Just wanted to confirm that this worked great and now my Vista install is fully updated
RodBernard: I am glad to hear the guide worked successfully for you. Today is September 2022 "patch Tuesday", so a change has been made to the Security Monthly Quality Rollup(SMQR) in step #32.
