abbodi1406: Thanks for confirming that January 2024 is the end of the line. I plan to do a new clean install and full testing of the guide after February 2024 "patch Tuesday". I am guessing that Windows Update will not display any updates after January 2024.
Now I find a way to intall KB5034008 on vista, firstly I intall your repacked net3.5sp1, then unintall it. After restart windows vista, install .net3.5 and some patches by windows update. Finally reintall BypassESU-v7-WS2008 and KB5034008. Success!
It looks like there are no more Windows Server 2008 64-bit ESU updates for Windows Vista 64-bit, so that is the end of the line for it. But it looks like Windows 8.1 64-bit will continue to survive because Windows Server 2012 R2 updates do not end until October 2026.
I believe we're still good with embedded updates for Windows 7 until October 2024. I'll find out when February 2024 "patch Tuesday" arrives.
I saw ESU for Windows Embedded Standard 7 ended on Oct 10, 2023. See learn.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/products/windows-embedded-standard-7 Is there one extra year support? I know 7/Server 2008 R2 and Vista/Server 2008 gets one extra year because of Azure, but what for embedded systems? Edit: Never mind, checked update catalog and saw Embedded Standard 7 was already surpassing that date, so it could be 9 more months from now if MS is generous.
