Interesting question. But Microsoft didn't putted integrated net 4.6.2 ie 9 and monthly in one package updates from September?
Ehhh still is in old style. On Vista monthly come, IE and Net need combine with install. On server 2008 SP 2 moment worked install all with bypass esu 7 and 8 LH but after changes from August WU started show errors when find updates.
The guide in the original post has been updated to reflect a complete change to step #27 and a complete removal of step #31. https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...ta-sp2-64-bit-beyond-its-eol-esu-dates.83461/ A very big thanks to abbodi1406 and his BypassESU-LH-v8 tool. https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/bypass-esu-longhorn.89161/
How look with Net 4.5.2, which officially come to windows update Vista before ESU in updates? Problematic too as ESU server 2008 SP2 like Net 4.6.2 ? Need install by hands. Or is all automatically via WU ?
Cheers for the guide. All the Vista updates installed fine, but when trying to check for updates to get the Server/ESU updates, it just errors for me with C8000266. Not sure how to solve this, I followed the guide to the letter. Any ideas?
I haven't idea. To me Server 2008 SP2 worked moment with bypass esu v7 vs2008 (for WU patcher) + lh8 (suppressor + bypass net) + datastore.db fix. Installed updates (all what give) and after restart virtual machine and next find updates error came. I think WU WU patcher WU patcher is WU patcher is guilty. And need all bypass esu update (not only suppressor with net bypass. But any precision instructions how make on server 2008 sp2. Only is about Vista.
The last time I ran a complete test of the guide from start to finish was after May 2025 patch Tuesday. I do not plan to do a complete test again until after January 2026 patch Tuesday. I do not know why you are receiving the dreaded C8000266 error message.
Maybe some instructions how good make for Windows Server 2008 SP2 for WU normally detect and install ESUs? Vista maybe don't show that error but Server 2008 show.
So fully updated Server 2008 SP2 before ESU. As first. Next after esu prep 2022 July or August is that update. Restart. SSU November 2025 restart. Net 4.6.2 restart. fully Bypass v7 vs2008 restart. Bypass esu 8 lh what he need install on that. Restart. Database.db fix install fix. Find windows updates. Install net October 2025 and Monthly November 2025. Restart. After that next find updates and here windows update put error. For me after restarting machine Wu forget changes what datastore.db fix putted. And here is problems on Server 2008 SP 2.
Today is the next to the last "patch Tuesday" for Windows Vista SP2/Server 2008 SP2. The final "patch Tuesday" will be on January 13. 2026. I had planned to do another complete test of my guide after the final "patch Tuesday". But that will not happen because the Dell Precision M6700 laptop which I have used the last few years for testing purposes is no longer available. I also have been increasingly more busy with testing of Windows 10 and Windows 11. It is the current technology, so I need to focus on that and not on older Windows operating systems. This thread will remain, but I will no longer respond to issues that others are having with installing or updating Windows Vista SP2/Server 2008 SP2. I am sure other members here will be glad to help you.
I have been testing Vista x86 on an old Toshiba laptop since I was asked to format it and I proposed this OS since it’s age-appropriate and still has another patch left. Unfortunately, the dreaded 8007000e error on search is still there, even with the November 2025 SSU. Due to another, unrelated problem (installed updates didn’t show and windows features was empty), I decided to reinstall using the ISO I uploaded online on the first day of 2025, with the January 2020 CU KB4534303 and June 2024 SSU KB5039341, and it still works. As we already probably knew, January 2025 SSU KB5050682 broke it. x64 installations check for and install updates fine.
AlfCraft07: I have never used the 32-bit(x86) version of Windows Vista SP2 for testing the guide, so I cannot address any issues you are having with it. I have only used the 64-bit(x64) version. The last complete test of the guide that I did was on May 24, 2025 - more than 6 months ago. All the steps worked fine at that time.
