    Enigma256, that looks interesting!!! I'll try that out later when I get home. Can both files be installed silently? That would be even better! Thanks again!!!

    In the meantime I called my ISPs technical support. They reset the password and now it's working. That was a surprise! I will likely continue using Windows Mail in the near future but thank you for the advice on WLM2009. One of my in laws downloaded WLM2011 or 2012 and hated it so went back to Windows Mail. It is good to know WLM2009 is available and I will likely move up to that in the future.

    Why don't you just install Microsoft Office? Which also populates your Hard Drive with Microsoft Outlook. It's fairly simple to setup.

    WLM works fine in Windows 8.1.1 --> 8.1.2 - also outlook and outlook 2013.
    I have no issues with any EMail working in Windows 8.1+

    Hi,
    I used Winmail on Windows 7 but I used the method published in 2009 involving executing a registry tweak, running a command line text and then swapping a .dll file. Nothing else was touched in the Program folder and it worked fine.
    I've just bought a Win 8.1 laptop and have noticed that people who have run Winmail on Win 8 aren't having much luck on Win 8.1. For that reason and because Windows 10 is about to be released, I've taken the cowards' 'wait and see' approach and use Gmail on my new laptop.
    The questions I have are:
    does Winmail work on8.1;
    will it work on Windows 10;
    is the method I used to get it working on Windows 7 OK for getting it on Windows 10 (assuming it will be possible to run it). I don't have a Vista OS anymore so I'm pretty much stuck with that method!!

    Windows mail works fine on 8.1 and it worked fine on 10 when I was using it... same method as usual. if you want to use the Send To mail recipient feature, you have to copy msidcrl30.dll to the system32/syswow64 (64/32bit versions, respectively).

    You say "it worked fine on 10 when I was using it"; does that mean you no longer use 10 or Windows Mail?

    I installed Windows 10; copied the msidcrl30.dll into my system 32 folder as suggested. Windows Mail did not work for me. I have since gone back to using Windows 7 until I can find a fix to being able to use Windows Mail in Windows 10. This wouldn't be an issue if MS wouldn't change the file format for emails. I need to be able to access old emails and that can't be done with the email program that comes with Windows 10. I also don't want to use a web based program; I want my emails saved to my hard drive.

    Windows Mail program seems to work fine with Windows 10 64bit. Only problem I have experienced twice in the last 6 months is that Winmail stopped launching after some of the larger Win 10 updates. I was able to overcome this problem simply by recopying the Vista msoe.dll back into the current c:\Program Files\Windows Mail folder. It worked immediately without any additional steps, to my amazement !! I haven't as yet learned how to make Winmail my default email in Win 10. I hope this info will help someone as all the previous posts have certainly helped me.

    You make Windows Mail your default mail app through the Default Programs control Panel.
