Squeeze is outdated. You need to be on Wheezy that's the new stable. Jesse is testing and Sid as always is Experimental. I can't remember off the top of my head but to check version of Wine it's either wine -v or wine --version. I'm not sure if you figured any of that out as this thread is almost a month old.
Step 1. Don't install wine. Step 2. Don't install wine. Step 3. Don't install wine. Step 4. upgrade to wheezy "wine sux"
lets make this simple on you. Get your self a flash drive then download Unetbootin and Ubuntu or Linux Mint. Let Unetbootin transfer the iso to the flash drive when your done boot from the flash and install. You will be able to install Play on Linux or just Wine very easy. And you will find Ubuntu and or Linux mint more user friendly for your self.
