In short apply writes the changes to the image, rebuild makes it effectively smaller if you have removed something, not doing so will leave the image file as big as it was, usually larger, even if you have half windows removed.
I removed as much as possible, so I do not know what exactly caused this problem, but how do fix? (see img) Okay, I can't post images or links yet, so heres the short url is.gd slash w2aogw Basically, you click a "How do I customize task bars" link in that new Settings "app", and Windows doesnt know how to open it.
Do you have a web browser installed? It's just a link to the windows help website. Install a browser and set it as default and try again.
so I am on this step, do you rebuild wim first and then apply changes to source wim? or apply changes to source wim > rebuild wim?
Nothing special. You can either make a bootable usb for a clean install, run it from the folder to update and save your apps and files. It's up to you.
6 > 1 apply then 6 > 3 rebuild then 7 > 1 save to iso then x cleanup and exit Then if you want to you can just run setup in the DVD folder to upgrade which saves your apps and files. Once that's all done you can run disk cleanup > system files select everything to clean it all up. If you have a SSD you can run Defrag which will initiate the Trim command on the drive. Oh yeah, If you're installing one you removed things from then you'll want a fresh install. Otherwise it will still have the apps you removed that are in your system now.
THANK YOU THANK YOU!! I'll be doing a fresh install, with windows update still available will I be running the risk of possibly re-installing what was removed when I do an update?
You're welcome. Glad it was helpful all kudos go to damianfox and the rest for all the info here. I haven't had anything return after an update that I had removed. Enjoy You may want to get a grip on updates with the "wumt" (windows update mini tool). Again I can't post links so you'll have to search for it...
How about getting latest MSMG tool and check what has changed, in case of questions ask in that thread.
