Does this have to be done on the same system that the bios chip is on? Have tried to mod on my toshiba laptop and keep getting the same message. "Not an award/ami bios". Yes I tried both tools, but I am pretty sure it is an award bios. Please help. On a side note, can the bios be modded to work with both xp pro sp3 and vista with sp1? Not sure as I am very new to this.

Yes, you can modify a bios of another machine on the machine of which you are using. A bios has nothing to do with the operating system being XP, Vista, Linux, etc....

So, you can modify any bios but you must have the same SLIC and Certificate to match. SLP are terms left over from Windows XP and Small Business Server.

Send a link of your bios for me to download and I will tell if it is award/ami or not

Not quite what I was asking. I know that it is possible to run vista and 7 with the same mod. What I am asking is if xp pro and vista/7 can be run from the same mod.

    Thanks.

Excuse me if this has been already answered but how come I can use Dell SLP, Dell SLIC 2.1 and Dell (vista) certificates with an Asus motherboard and a Lenovo OEM key.
I don't understand how can Windows 7 get activated if the OEM key is not from the same company as the Cert/SLP/SLIC.

It is possible for MS to detect a modded bios?.

    Thanks.

Of course they can with the right SLP, SLIC and Certificates.

V2.1 SLIC + SLP + XP Cert + OEM SLP Product Key = Activation

v2.1 SLIC and No SLP + Vista Cert + OEM SLP Product Key = Activation

v2.1 SLIC and No SLP + Vista Cert + OEM SLP Product Key by Lenovo for Windows 7 Ultimate = Actviation

I am repeating this from another PM that I just made:

V2.1 SLIC + SLP + XP Cert + OEM SLP Product Key = Activation

v2.1 SLIC and No SLP + Vista Cert + OEM SLP Product Key = Activation

v2.1 SLIC and No SLP + Vista Cert + OEM SLP Product Key by Lenovo for Windows 7 Ultimate = Actviation

How do I contact either of them? Will they respond to this? Again, sorry for dumb questions. Totally new to this. Thanks for your help. Is there some type of format that I need to follow the get the bios mod to be usable for both xp and vista/7 when asking either of them to help?

This method works great. Was able to modify without issues:
    Dell Vostro 200 (Award BIOS)
Dell Studio Hybrid 140g (AMI BIOS)
    Lenovo IdeaPad U110 (AMI BIOS)

hi am trying to mod my bios for an Asus P5KPL-CM with the ami slic tool. i pick the "HPQOEMSLIC-MPC.BIN" and then "HP.txt" and verify against "HP.XRM-MS". verification works and when i press go, it seems to go through the process but then the comp hangs when it tries to run MMTOOL.exe

i'm running win7 x64 RTM version. Any ideas?

You cannot put a strange bios on your own without it screwing up the computer....first, you do need a modified bios with SLIC v2.1 to activate windows 7 as OEM.

And gfving a HP 110 Notebook is not enough information.....I need the following

    -Manufacturer:
    -Motherboard Model:
    -Bios revision:
    -Bios Type:
    -Bios Download Link:
