Hello Everyone! First of all. Thank u for a great guide and for taking the time to answer everyones questions. Forgive me for getting right to the point but Im kinda anxious to get started... I have a couple of questions that I would like to be sure about before trying to flash my BIOS. 1. When you say to select manufacturer you mean the boards manufacturer right? (Like, for example, if my MOBO is made by ASUS i should select ASUS if its an MSI I should select MSI and so forth) I think I am right although asking never killed anybody. 2. (Let me quote your quote here) Could you explain that whole paragraph please? I didn't understand completely. First of all, theres only 1 DELL.BIN in the SLICS 2.1 folder. Then I don´t see any "SLIP DELL SYSTEM" option or nothing like that in the whole GUI. And finally how do I know if I have chosen DELL SYSTEM or not? I thought I should pick the DELL.BIN SLIC 2.1 file and the DELL txt WITH a DELL certificate. Is that correct? Also, you didn't provide a link for any certificates so I'm using one I found somewhere else (torrent site I think.. can't remember honestly) Is it ok? Or would it prevent me from upgrading to 7 in the future cause most likely it is a Vista certificate.(I only want to HAVE the 2.1 SLIC to upgrade later form Vista cause I don't fully trust new OSs) 3. How do I know which certificate to use? From what ive gathered reading about this mods. Its better to just use DELL with every brand and model of MOBO? Is this correct? 4. Once I've modded my BIOS is it permanent? I mean. If I had to reformat my PC, should I repeat the steps for activation? Or would it be possible just to enter the key on the installation process? (I know the BIOS won't change as long as I don't reflash it, so thats not the issue here) Also, Is there a way for M$ to update or made some kind of WGA for BIOS' mods? Thus rendering my copy useless?(I'm new to the scene, please. bear with me) 5. How do I know the type of BIOS my mobo uses? i.e: Everest Ultimate tells me that my BIOS type is AWARD Bios. But then it tells me its "Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG" I know Phoenix makes all of the BIOS. But how to know if it can be modded or not (I read that Phoenix BIOSs' can't be or at least, are difficult to mod? am I right?) 6. Is it possible to modify an old-ish BIOS to have SLIC 2.0-2.1? (I'm talking about a 2004-2005 mobo here...) Yes. The CPU CAN take the heat. Yes, so can the RAM. Thanks in advance for your help. I'm sorry if this post is kinda large but like I told you, I'm new to these types of moddings so it is always better to ask before doing something I might regret.
I can tell from your questions you are not ready for this...so, I think you need to ponder and study more and then come back with a more sound and informed decision...I don't have time to hold your hand...the tutorial is very self-explanatory and I really do not have a lot of time in answering menial questions which are so obvious...sorry.
Thank you! Thank you for your no BS honest approach without trying to make it sound more difficult than it is. Now, answering your question. The SLP and no W7 activation BS comes straight from the first post... So... I'm just following the steps. I use the DELL SLIC but which one???? I mean there are like a trillion SLICS for each brand in the package provided (The unnoficial that is)... What is WHS activation? :S rweverything crashes my PC every time I try to run it. It freezes up and then all i have left to do is a cold reboot. Final question. If I have an MSI mobo. Shouldn't I use an MSI SLIC and matchng cert? Why is everybody recommending the DELL slic? Is it a matter of preference or oem keys or what? thanks again.
Ooops... Sorry, forgot you asked me not to quote you on this xD Hahahah.. Bad jokes aside. Could you tell me which FREAKING SLIC should I use? There are a million of them! by the way... Whys that? Everyone appears to be using the same 2 or 3 slics (DELL, HP, etc) So why even bother to include all of the others? Is there a reason behind this? I mean, If my mobo is MSI should't I just pick MSI and be done with it? Thanks for your help (y)
MSI board is good with MSI SLIC.. The tool does not insert SLP automatically. You have to choose an SLP.txt file. Just do not choose one. You are correct in that the difference is the position of award6.00 string. The slp is in the exact same offset. You can use any slic you want..For MSI, if you want to activate Vista, use the ASUS serial number.. EDIT.....WHS = Windows Home Server..... As far as everyone recommending Dell slics and stuff....Ignorance...Plain and simple. and a bit of preference.
Hi 911medic, when i understand correctly, it is not recommended to insert both, SLP & SLIC into Bios? Is there a higher risk to break it when adding both? Greets! (heman1980)
