don't be stupid ... filename are watermark_patch_win8-cp_x86_en-US.rar so it's clear it's for 32-bit and not for both or only x64.

Patching basebrd.dll.mui removes the "Windows 8 Consumer Preview" string from winver.exe too.
But that's no big deal i guess.

Why is there still talk of patching when what _alex_ described works without it?

    hey, thanks.

Usually we talk more just for testing and giving feedbacks to who create the patch/app.
If it works, anoyone is free to choose to patch the system(at your own risk)
Or maybe Use the simply solution to overwrite the cached image. :D

You can modify the file shell.dll.mui by yourself, here following the instruction below:

1- Google, download and install the Resource Hacker (reshack_setup.exe)
2- Take ownership and control (Windows\System32\en-US\shell32.dll.mui)
    3- Open in Resource Hacker
    Choose String table Resource 2070/1033
    Delete lines 33108, 33109, 33118
    Compile Scrit
    Save
    Reboot
    Run > mcbuilder
    Reboot
    Done!

@steph_t: At which file does it show up? (termsrv.dll, shell32.dll.mui or basebrd.dll.mui?) Do you use the loader of woot332? Have you previously modified the mui files on your own?

I really wasn't sure why anyone would want to, or need to, remove the Watermark.

I've come to understand it's something we like to do just because we can. :)

    Thanks!

Worked for me - still activated.

It took me two times because I failed to follow the instructions more carefully.
