Hi, Is there any way to safely reduce the size of WinSxS folder in Windows Installation Directory? Overtime, after Windows Installation it is steadily growing larger, given that I've uninstalled a lot of desktop apps?
For Windows 8.0 there is: Code: dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup For Windows 8.1 there is: Code: dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup /resetbase component cleanup by itself will recompress the folder contents and remove obsolete kb files the 8.1 /resetbase option will remove uninstall information and remove the old pre-kbfile sxs (in essence making the kbfiles downloaded from windows update, your new winsxs files) The 8.0 option will save a bit of room if you've never done it before. the 8.1 option will save a LOT more room after a year or so when there's a bunch of kb files downloaded.
I really like the resetbase option! It's kinda like the /nobackup switch that could be used on 2000/xp updates and service packs.
