    Agreed.

When possible, I modify the hardware firmware APM value, but this is no longer feasible nowadays since many tools only run on DOS and lack UEFI support.

A software like CrystalDiskInfo does the job well, by running resident in Windows.

    Look no further: crystalmark.info/en & sourceforge.net/projects/crystaldiskinfo/files

    My two cents.

Because hard disks wear down much more on starting and stopping the spindle, than they wear down continuously running. Starting and stopping is where the biggest forces act.

It all depend on weather you are on Desktop computer, you can use Power saving your HDD (Set to 25 mins), for SSD, no need.. IF you are on a laptop using HDD, MY ADVISED is to clone from HDD to SSD this will help better alot there no worry wear and tear.. I have 45 HDD all are set 15 mins sleep (Depend on configuration on my TrueNAS and Windows Server) I have one of HDD is 10 years old (1TB and still alive and use Sleep mode on NAS..) Most of my desktop never place sleep mode on HDD because I do not run Desktop 24/7! Only my NAS or Server is runs 24/7 @ 365 days..
