Partial key "BTDRB" is the standard Retail/Trial-Key which is used by MS for default Office installs. This doesn't disturb 180day KMS activation. This Trial-key should normally be uninstalled by O2016RTool. I will check why this doesn't happen. Does anybody know, how to display full key of installed Office 2016? For example that BTDRB, how to display it fully?

You can't do this at the moment. Wait until Oct, 01. Then real VL should be available. I assume SVF delta files to convert Retail ISO to VL ISO will come after that date.

So I downloaded the MSDN Italian ISO, installed it and converted it to VL with O2016RTool. I then choosed to run O2016RTool internal KMS server and everything looked fine. I run Word and... it is asking me for a product key... err am I missing something?

The question was: How to create a new VL-ISO from a Retail-ISO Creating a new install media is impossible at the moment. You can only convert/change a already installed Office. And it will remain a converted Retail. It won't turn into a real Volume License.

YES, you try to download a MSDN Retail ISO version 16.0.4266.1003. O2016RTool was designed to download MS-VNEXT Click2Run Versions from Microsoft servers. Current Click2Run version is 16.0.4229.1024. Hence the error.
