Great MS! Already wasted 5.24 Gb bandwidth. Anyways, is there any advantage/disadvantage of using Insider branch. I mean does MS still transmit *anonymous* files data to their servers, specifically on Insider branch?
Guess what happened: "Current/Retail" Branch got a very fast update to 16.0.6769.2017 !! Yes, it now has the same version as "Insider/Preview". Just downloaded the new .2017 Current Branch with O2016RTool and setup continues without problems. I "like" these MS guys
There will never be a final version because Microsoft tends to alter the activation process every so often. Not that that really matters. Besides that, just using the O2016RTool already works fine, my office 2016 has been activated for ages without issues. No need to wait.
Why not? It's always in the liking of the user It can be more than only renewing an existing version by using internal Office update (Office App / Menu -> File -> Account -> Update Options -> Update now)... Maybe someone wants to download whatever version he/she needs (either "Current/Retail"- or "Insider/Preview"-Branch) and wants to be able to create a complete setup package for use as install source on another system?
Hi My apologies if I have missed info pertaining to this in an earlier posting. I recently successfully downloaded 16.0.6868.2062 Current Branch) and appeared to successfully build a Mondo install (configure32.xml; setup.exe and start_setup.cmd all created.) However when I try to run the setup.exe a small execution window appears fleetingly and then the process fails immediately. I have taken all precautions re. previous versions, AV, Firewall etc. Interestingly if I try to install immediately (chose not to create install setup) it all works fine, so the download content must all be intact I guess. Can you suggest what I might be doing wrong? (OS = Windows 10 x64 10586 with all updates to patch Tuesday just gone.) Many thanks
You must use start_setup.cmd, not setup.exe. The batch will run "setup.exe" together with "configure32.xml". This will start a correct setup.
Thank you for coming back so promptly. I did already try this having gone through a complete cleanup again, but with the same result unfortunately. Initially I created an ISO and burned a DVD of the install files and tried to install from that. I then subsequently just tried to run the install from the local HDD thinking there might be a write issue because of the DVD source, but that seems to fail in the same way. i.e momentary appearance of execution window and then nothing. If you have any further thoughts I would be very grateful. Many thanks
I just tried to reproduce this behaviour and I was successful: It will happen if package is saved to root \ and setup is started from there. If you move all the files (and the "Office"-dir) away from root \ to a separate subdirectory and run start_setup.cmd from within this directory then setup will work. I didn't find a workaround to make it run directly from root \. So you have to use the Office Deployment Tool (=setup.exe) as it was apparently designed by Microsoft -> A subdir is always required for saving the files and starting the setup.
Excellent. Thank you for getting to the bottom of this. Incidentally I was still having problems even after correcting the directory structure as per your response. From force of habit I was right clicking on start_setup.cmd batch file and running as administrator which was causing the process to stall in the same way. After a few failed attempts I released that a simple double click however solves the problem! i.e. not using the elevated command. Seems odd and a bit counter-intuitive to me, but I am not that technical so I guess there is a good reason! Anyhow I am now able to make an install DVD which runs perfectly, completely off-line which is what I was wanting to do. Thanks again
Can't you update the tool for right auto-update (version info)? also can someonemake installable iso from downloaded files?
