Was it offered by WU or already preinstalled on the iso? As far as i can see it's from 2011 (maybe it's re-offered regularly, i don't know, at least update.catalog doesn't offer it atm) and most likely newer updates will repaired the problems it caused in the past.

Edit: it's already integrated by msft (MSDN iso):
    Code:

Package_for_KB976902~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.17514 and hidden Package_for_KB976902_RTM~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.17514 are pending. Which means uninstallable offline.

It is for Servicing Stack. Let Windows itself to update it. Do not remove it yourself even if you can.

From the info I could find, KB976902 was a prerequisite for installing Windows 7 Service Pack 1. So, if the image you used to install Win7 Ultimate already has SP1 integrated, then KB976902 is integrated as well. If you ask me, I wouldn't screw around with it. Let it be.

Where did you read it's bad? and how?

anyway, bottom line, kb976902 is part of SP1 itself, you can't remove it
