If the install is fresh, it activates immediately. If the install is coming from an image, or a hard drive is moved to another PC, that is when we run into these issues. Creators update (1703) is when it all started, and while initially I thought that this behavior was a bug, I am starting to believe that it is intentional. Microsoft wants every single imaged system to be syspreped. Back into topic. Genuineticket.xml still works
When entering a key a Store license capable key in change product key window Windows generates internally GenuineTicket.xml and applies it to ClipSVC tokens for the entered key and then activates it. Ticket is generated internally using command: Code: Clipup.exe -d -k <key> This command can also be used to apply genuine ticket from Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 keys. Windows will apply the information automatically to ClipSVC tokens.dat. That means that if you enter a Retail or OEM Windows 10 key, Windows will activate it and generate Store license for it, so you will not need to enter key during next installation (at least it seems like that).
After establishing an HWID on a new PC with the method described in this thread, is it possible to revert the OS back to its trial status?
Thanks for the information It worked to upgrade Windows 10 PFW 16278.1000 to Windows 10 PFW 17083.1000 Thanks a gain
So, I just upgraded from w7 to 10 pro about 3 days ago now (using the official updater from the website) and i'm kind of at a loss on how to activate this (if I can even). For one thing if I click "activate" in settings, it just sits at a loading screen forever.
Not sure why you want that but entering the gVLK without activating it would set the system to notification.
But if i enter a gVLK key, won't this be a "temporary" solution.I mean,if i reinstall the OS won't it be activated as soon as i get it online.I'm looking for a permanent method(without)changing the mobo.
Why did you establish a HWID when you don't want it . You can bind your HWID to MS Account and transfer to another machine (i.e. a VM), that would revoke the one for yours.
I built an desktop for a friend and obtained the digital license last year, now he wants to sell the machine. From what i've read online, only retail licenses can be moved from one PC to another.I did not know that you can do that with an upgrade path type of license described in this thread.
For HWID activation it needs the binding to MS account to move the license. No other way to my knowledge.
As long as you don't change mobo/lan it shouldn't matter, but why not first apply the ticket on the current system and change things afterwards? If the HWID is confirmed by applying the ticket you don't need it anymore.
New I had a w10 pro HWID for old MOBO (İntel sabertooth x79): and i was changed mobo and cpu and rams. after clean install MS asked me have you MS account and any changes the hardware ? press yes and I insert account name , password: after my new computer (Amd Ryzen) actiavated (HWID). two months later (06-2017) : my old mobo repaired;: i was clean install w10 pro: it is activated too Sorry for bad English
i upgraded to 10 some time ago and got the digital licence, but later i've to change my harddrive and then i tried again on clean install on new harddrive but i'm unable to get the digital licence. i tried all possible method to troubleshoot, listed in microsoft blogs but none are working. so the upgraded digital licence is so fragile that i cant even change the harddrive?
