    Hi all

I am going to admit it, I am a bit unsure about technical things when it comes to computers and the question I am about to ask will probally be bread and butter stuff to your wizzards out there.

I have an old dell laptop, inspiron 1501 i think (have to double check) that I got in 2006. It stopped working in 2009 and does not even start up, just a dead blank screen.

I have heard that the hard drive can be rescued an used as an external device? I hope this is true as I need pictures and documents that we saved on the laptop.

Any specific tools or wire/cables needed for this?

If your handy at all you can do it all yourself.

    One example:

    External-Enclosures

How to take your laptop apart you can get from the manual or tech support from the mfg
web site and some small hand tools.

    Bottom line have fun

ps Sorry I cant give links yet...

before you do that try taking out the internal battery and booting by just the power pack plugged in, it is a common fault in laptops, i have had dozens brought to me with booting problems. and 90% work after this procedure. if it boots ok then just refit the battery in again.
