Hey guys, just a few quick newbie questions for you. I followed some of the basic steps to mod and flash the stock BIOS for my Dell XPS 720 A06 and have been able to flash it successfully with SLIC. My problem is that I'm not sure where to go with this next. The whole reason I'm trying to use a modded BIOS is so I can overclock without having my PC lock up. But after flashing the new BIOS my options for FSB/Voltage/Multiplier/etc are still all locked and unable to be changed. What is the next step I need to take (or what did I miss in this) Trying to OC using a program like ntune just causes my computer to freeze. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

If I'm not mistaken, the reason you would flash your BIOS to include SLIC, is to activate Windows without the use of any loaders or other "fixes". Not sure if it will help with overclocking.

Well I did need to activate Windows 7, but thought that flashing a modified BIOS might kill 2 birds with one stone.

Mod BIOS on Dell Inspiron 1720 to support 8GB RAM and FSB overclock?

I didn't have time to read through the 27 pages of this thread, so forgive me if this has already been addressed.

Can this BIOS mod info be used to make make the Inspiron 1720 support 8GB of RAM? The GM965 chipset supports 8GB, but Dell has the BIOS locked down to only allow 6GB. Further, Dell officially claims that the machine can only accept 4GB. Many 1720 owners are using 6GB successfully though, but the ones that try 8GB never get through POST. I'd like to use all 8GB that the chipset supports.

If possible, I'd also like to do a bit of overclocking on the FSB. I just bought the Intel X9100 (3.06GHz / 1066MHz FSB) CPU for my 1720 and I'd like to try and get the motherboard's FSB up to 1066MHz (from 800MHz) to get a nice 1:1 ratio with the CPU. I'd also get some 1066MHz RAM if I could get the BIOS to support 8GB of it. (I'd also need to figure out how to get the RAM to run faster than 667MHz though, as 667MHz RAM speed is another ridiculous limitation in the BIOS). Overclocking is less important than being able to use all 8GBs of RAM, so I'd be fine with the CPU's FSB being downclocked to 800MHz if overclocking just isn't in the cards.

    Thanks!

    Noob help needed

    Hi all,
I really want to learn how to do this on my own and I have been researching online quite a bit but perhaps it is either my ADD or a sheer case of ignorance so please bear with me. Let me explain what I am trying to do...
I have an HP DV6743US laptop and I have a Dell OEM Windows 7 Home Premium disk from my Dell PC that I bought. I want to inject the Dell SLIC info into the Bios so that way when I install Win 7 it will be activated. Does this make sense? I downloaded the Bios from HP's site and I extracted the Bios and then opened it with Phoenix SLIC Mod v1.42 tool kit.

This is where I need help.
    1. There are 2 WPH files in the Bios I extracted. Do I need to mod both?
    2. I select Dell as the Manufacturer right?
    3. I have no idea what to select for SLIC. I downloaded the SLIC's from this thread but I don't want to brick the laptop so instead of choosing a wrong one I stopped. Which one do I choose?
    4. I have no idea what to select for RW. I went through the folders in the files I downloaded and I can't find a file with the RW extension anywhere.

I just want an installed version of Win 7 that is activated. If someone wouldn't mind spoon feeding me for a bit that would be great.

Thanks in advance for your help! :D

Still Need to Validate After Mod?

Hi Gents. Got a hand-me-down Acer 6530 from my nephew and wanted to mod the bios. Found two ready-made mods online: one with SLIC 2.1 and one that uncovered hidden windows in BIOS to overclock the integrated graphics. I wanted both. I put the overclocking BIOS file into Phoenix Mod Tool and followed the directions from the first post to add SLIC 2.1 - no problems. Flashed the file with PHLASH17, no problems. Restarted the computer and was still able to oc the IGP in BIOS - great. But when Windows 7 started I noticed it still read "30 Days to Activate. Activate Windows now."

Opened up SLIC Toolkit 3.2, it said SLIC 2.1 had indeed been installed, though it read NO OEM CERTIFICATE FOUND (yes, I was running as admin). I tried manually activating by entering the Pass Key found on the Windows-7-OEM-SLP-Key-Collection thread (same stated in PKey window in ToolKit) and got the error "A problem occurred when Windows tried to activate. Error Code 0xC004E003."

So, it won't activate. Is it because I modded an already modded BIOS file? Or because there's no OEM certificate? Some help appreciated.

I just disabled the whitelist for WLAN card on my bios, but saw that I have Default OS in the BIOS main page: Vista in Bios.
Now I have Windows 7 30days trial installed.

    1. It's not clear, if I don't update the SLIC I will not able to activate Win 7?

    2. Also with a DVD drive from a previus computer, the bios does not boot from it, only spins when I insert a DVD/CD (nor Windows 7). Can be a problem related to the BIOS HP limitation?

    3. There is some way to unlock all the features of my bios? IDE/SATA; Temperature....?

    thanks

    hi,

in the past i "baked" my SLIC bioses by myself, i am familiar with the mod process.
now i have an brand new board with AMI UEFI bios.
doing this bios shows me a confusing message...

    1. use phoenix/dell 1.85 tool
    2. made RW everything acpi report as described from blank w7 system
    3. load original bios -> bios gets parsed, 2 messages -> ok
    4. select manufacturer (asus)
    5. select SLIC file (asus)
    6. load RWE report with its unchanged filename (AcpiTbls.rw)
    7. load certificate comming with SLIC

    now a windows pops up:

i tried sevceral times, checked every step... the error messsage still appears.

    where is the error?

    thanks,

    supaman

Phoenix BIOS Tool v1.85 vs. the HP Pavilion dv7-4295us

    Hi!

I have tried the method listed in the original post, since I have a HP Pavilion dv7-4295us which comes with an Insyde BIOS. The BIOS package from the manufacturer (I would post the URL that leads to the file, but my post count isn't 20+. Will this work? ftp dot hp dot com/pub/softpaq/sp52501-53000/sp52758.exe) extracts a bunch of files, one of which is a .BIN file, 4,766Kb in size. I copied the file and renamed it with the .FD extension. The Phoenix Tool (v 1.85) will not recognize it, nor any other file in the package. It gives me the "Not Phoenix/Dell/Insyde/EFI BIOS" error.

Any ideas as to why this might not be picking this up as an Insyde BIOS. I'd REALLY like to be able to modify the BIOS to include the SLIC, but if not, I might have to use the Loader program, and I'd much rather go about this the "better" way.

I really appreciate any help anyone here might be able to afford.

    Thanks!

why the hell you want to mod that bios? the device HAS already a SLIC 2.1 signature in it. all you have to do is installing a windows version of your wish (e.g. ultimate x64) and activate it with a activator tool. you can also do this manually, but it's more easy with a tool, it detects which SLIC is present and automaticly uses the right CERT and serial. a boot loader is NOT used, if a valid SLIC is detected.

    Activator Tool?

First of all, I didn't mean to rouse any ire in anyone by posting my question. I'm fairly new to this, and while you might have been swimming in this for some time, there was a time when you, too, were not quite as savvy in this regard.

With that said, I DO appreciate your filling me in on the BIOS having a 2.1 SLIC sig. I'm not familiar with the Activator tool that you're mentioning, and if you could point me in the right direction, I'd be grateful. The only thing I have is the Windows Loader by Daz. I've used that in Win7 VMs using VMware, but this is going to be a host OS install -- hopefully, you can understand the minor trepidation in getting it right -- that's why I've posted here -- to ask.

If there is an Activator tool that I can use to permanently activate Win7 Ultimate x86 or x64 on that machine (I believe it comes pre-loaded with Home Premium), that would be very helpful. I'd also be interested to learn about the manual method.

My intent was not to have to use Daz's Windows Loader, which is what is sounds like the method you're suggesting achieves (hopefully).

Any input here will be appreciated. I'm here to learn about this from those who know better. If that's not one of the thrusts of this board, let me know.

    Thanks.

if you already have slic2.1 Daz's Windows Loader only puts certs and serial in not the loader

So, if I understand you correctly, with the BIOS having a 2.1 SLIC signature, and if Daz's program works as you say, then Windows Loader will render the machine I'm talking about "hardmodded"?

What he's says is, if your bios has SLIC 2.1 already (It had it orginally, or you modified the bios to have it, or someone else did), you don't need to try to find the matching certs and keys. You can just run DAZ's loader program, it will inspect the bios and see it has an 2.1 SLIC and automatically detect which manufacturer type, install the cert and key for it. If it doesn't detect a 2.1 SLIC in the bios, it will install a loader.

New Lenovo Ideapad S205 - Unable to install SLP

    Hello,

    I tried that Bios: "123.127.211.194/au/en/driversdownloads/Drivers_Show_4919.html#"
(please add http to that link, because my post counter is to low for adding links at the moment)

But with all three mod methods a window pops up with that message: Unable to install SLP

I tried different SLICS with corresponding certificates, but always the same error occures.

    What is wrong here?

    Thanks for any hints!

great tutorial. thank you. Is there a way to modify type 4 information for the DMI in this tool?
