In my experience, to increase the performance of Excel, processor capability is more important than the RAM capacity. RAM size required in accordance with the size of the opened file. But for performance, Processor capability needed.
Becareful of ramdisks, when the user shuts down the system, all contents will be lost forever. Only tell the user to put things on ramdisks he does not love or let the user make images of the ramdisks.
Oh I think someone storing their Masters thesis or Epic novel on a randisk would be awesome..... when the power goes off.
Come on. There are zillions of ways to stay protected even using a ramdisk, and I assume the brain of a person that use a ramdisk is developed enough to understand its strengths and its weakeness
That's easy to handle with a Macro Script to auto save every sudden minute (or seconds if you like) the data to the physical storage, in background!
Sure, the CPU play's it's role! Just in Excel, special if it come to huge Spreadsheets, with processes like Filtering, Calculations and more running, it's the RAM wich plays the Main Role, special if tghe size of the used spreadsheet has several hundreds of MB's!!
I want to use ram more efficiently for more speed; Example; ON SAME PC ..............................Use standart config...........use ram more efficiently ...................free...............5,7 gb....................5,2 gb .................in use.............2,0 gb....................2,4 gb ................cashed............1,5 gb................2,1 gb ..............committed.........2,3/9,2 gb................2,8/7,9 gb my xlsx file size on ram.........274,4 mb...............317 mb I used same program on Windows (only excel) when i measure them from task manager. Last Word; I think whenever Windows can load more things to RAM, (enough free space on RAM, of course) I have more speedly system than system working on HDD, Because of that, I disabled pagefile but i need more fine adjustment like registry settings, etc.
You right but, If load more percentages of files to RAM (for example 80% instead of 40%), you gain more speed.... Is that wrong? In my system same .xlsx file with excel program now goes up to 317 MBs from 274 MBs on RAM. I disabled pagefile only. NOT: I have i7 processor with 4 cores in my system.
My apologies to the OP for the incorrectness and harshness of my reply. The first order of business here at MDL is to help other members. If it wasn't clear to me what their request was, I should have just kept quiet and let those better than me speak.
I'm sorry my reply too. I like trying to learn something but I'm 40 and its hard to learn English exept Daily English, Anyway, I know what is my opologies and i will try to make me right. ........
i have 4 dimm and in task manager i see speed 667 MHz,why? in bios i have Profile1 activate (1600 MHz) ?
maybe one of your RAM's real speed 667 MHz.. I saw wrong information problem with two toshiba notebooks like yours. Their processor information was different bios and task manager / hardware manager Maybe you should do bios update and run a hardware test program.
I guess I understand what op means, he just wants a faster system. Well, forget about the RAM, 8GB is more than enough for you. Just buy a SSD and install your windows, office and all applications on it.
