Thanks MasterDisaster for the info. The thing is that i don't have ACPI's option in my BIOS. It's pretty basic, with very few options in it. But, i will check it.
This explains everything but is intel really so stupid? I hope not. Btw.. the driver currently does not search for RSDP in EBDA. So... I'll update and u can try then again if u want...
Thanks secr9tos, but the problem it seems to be the loader, no the drivers. if i install only the drivers nothing happens but when i install the loader i get that error. thanks for your help
"nothing happens" = "fatal error" for me. The driver just does not "bugcheck" if something went wrong like the loader does...
ah. ok. Now the problem is that the loader cannot read correctly the ACPI tables. It would be possibly to modify the loader to read the ACPI table properly?
My guess is that ur bios produces multiple instances of RSDP in EBDA but only the one with a valid check sum is correct. In the end I think the loader just forgets about the "others" and prints this error. I'll update my driver so u can try it out tomorrow or so...
Thank you very much secr9tos. Daz give up on me. So you are the only chance i have to use a loader to activate Windows.
"Giving up" is not an option. A loader/driver that only works on e.g 98% of all pcs is not enough for me. Everybody should be able to get a Win7 for free regardless of underlying hardware.
i think the same way. The fact that i cannot activate windows(using a loader) becouse i have a "tricky" mobo make me feel like an idiot. I know this is not the responsability for the creators of the loaders. But still i don't have an straight answer about my problem. except for you and PMR, you guys helped me a lot to try to understand. There is nothing personal here. i'm just feeling a little frustated by this problem.
@ cba1986 It's not so much that I have gave up, but with GRUB4DOS theres just so much to it already where as this driver is designed to be a loader and a loader only. The issue with Intel motherboards has been around since pretty much the very first GRLDR based loader back when Vista was out and even the Paradox driver had exactly the same issue. While it worked for some it didn't work for others but now that WAT checks the SLIC placement and brands (Intel + Dell = likely not genuine) and since there is no Intel SLIC then the odds of activation via a loader either by GRUB or driver are slim to none and you would always risk de-activation. It's nothing personal, it's just your hardware isn't very compatible with the method of activation you're trying to use. So to elaborate even if time was spent trying to make it work you still need a good SLIC placement on hardware that likely doesn't even expect a SLIC v2.1. This is why I suggested sticking to an older loader thats working for your system and simply not installing WAT as it stands exactly the same chance anyway... If you are extremely lucky you may find a BIOS mod for the motherboard and save yourself allot of trouble, but even BIOS mods are hard to do for Intel 911medic and a few others may be the best to talk to about things, maybe even Yen.
I know Daz. So the reason that an older loader such as 7loader release 5 worked it was just luck? I do realize that you are not responsible of what is happening to me. And i know that the problem is the mobo, that is the reason why i feel like an idiot. i didn't realize that intel's mobos were such complicated when i bought one. i spent, god knows, many hours to make a decent overclock becouse you can't modify the memory:FSB ratio from BIOS(you have to do it manually) You are doing a great job with your loader and you have helped a lot of people. Unluckily for me, i'm not one of them. Thanks anyway for your answer.
@ cba1986 Pretty much yes, it likely had a bad SLIC placement and maybe messed up another table in the process which would explain why its then been fixed in the later versions. It would also explain why WAT flags you as non-genuine too... Personally I would either buy a new motherboard or buy a licence since to me thats far less hassle than playing the cat and mouse game on hardware I know will likely have future issues. While that may sound like you're giving up you are only really coming to terms with the fact that activation via almost any method on a handful of Intel motherboards is hard. You're not alone, there are others who have the same issue and I think most have just bit the bullet and bought Windows 7 and I don't really blame them, it's an OS that is worth the price.
if I had money to buy a license, i would not be writing this post. I will not buy another mobo, i bought this 7 months ago. and it's cost me a lot of money. i'm really pissed of with the whole situation. My problem is most probably caused becouse my BIOS is EFI based. as far i been reading that EFI will be applied on future mobo's so there is no reason to take a risk changing mobo. I don't have a choice other than stick with the "extended" grace period provided by PMR. Sure win 7 worth the price, but i can't afford it. Thanks
@ secr9tos I'm not sure how well the driver can reposition tables once Windows has loaded due to write access but what I mean is you got the freedom to experiment where as in GRUB you are limited as to what you can do. So putting time and effort into something for a handful of people while risking breaking one of the 3 activation modes in the GRLDR is hard work and a tough one to pull off. Of course I would like to see an activation solution for every user but you also have to think about "will this activation stick if MS checks the brands" and when it comes to Intel I'm just really not sure it will. @ cba1986 Same situation for most people bud, we don't want to buy it but eventually some of us will. For example you could use the rearm trick for a long time and then come a birthday or maybe next Christmas treat yourself if you got the money to do it. I know how much some of the Intel boards cost though, I used to have one in my old system and the replacement price was just silly!
lol what version i.e. ultimate or whatever do you use because its not a problem for me to give you a key
The thing is that i want to bought it, but the price is extremely high(i live in Argentina, the import taxes are abusing). The price for Ultimate is $279, Home Premium $125 (dollars of course). Some people have to work two months to buy this. Spent all my savings to arm this PC, near 1300 dollars(1700 if we count the videocard), perhaps for people who lives in the states is not to much money, but in this Country it's a lot. That's OK. I am used to letting things go. Thanks. i'm using the Ultimate version. But i'm thinking to downgrade to home premium. i don't know what to do anymore.
