Guys sorry if this is a silly question, I would generally just do a clean OEM VLK XP pro install.

But in this case I need to "inplace" upgrade XP Home ACER SLP to a XP Pro. (need the rdp server and some vpn).

I already did a google on
upgrade windows home SLP to windows xp pro sp3 site:forums.mydigitallife.net

But it came up with too much info.

Okay I have heard you can "UPGRADE" i.e install in place XP home with XP Pro Retail (i have never done this). How do I do this without activation issues. I generally only do the OEM VLK versions so have no idea of any issues involved here.

    What I got is this:
    Acer Veriton X800

    Microsoft Windows XP
    Home Edition
    Version 2002
    Service Pack 3
    76477-OEM-0011903-00100

Any help would be much appreciated

Take the oembios files from the present install and place them in a pro retail disk -or- do a repair install with an xp pro VLK version, then use the oembios changer tools to change to OEM. (VLK2OEM tools..).

Either way, I would take the oembios files from the home version and save them to a usb drive. Then you have them. The OEMBIOS tool I made will save them for you..

ta read your thread n the vlkoem..
Okay tried the Retail pro sp3 with oem.
put cdrom in when wuning windows xp home and then selected UPGRADE
when it reboots and does it thing it gets stopped at the install phase where
    "Setup cannot copy file csv.xs_"
and a whole lot of other files..

argh seen this before with bad cdroms(burnt multiple cdroms) or bad memory(memtest86 okay).. neither is the case.. tried copying i386 to d: partition and doing it from there.. same result.. tried modifying regedit for sourcefiles etc keys

Bloody hell. thank gawd i images the C drive to extern usb

Now this is agony. i really want to clean install this but can't due to some quirky software they havent got install media too.

Can only thing of some screwed up hotfix issue

    Hey mate,
There is nothing wrong with your installation or drive.
The thing you are trying to do is Upgrade Windows XP Home OEM to Windows XP Pro VLK.
But windows doesn't allow you to do that.
I also had the same problem.
The things you will have to do are

    1. Find Windows XP Pro OEM or better make one using OEMBIOS Changer
    2. Then upgrade to Windows XP Pro by running the setup from Windows XP Home

Hope it helps. I did the same way!!
