Somewhere to download. In a few hours I will return it to you and we will check if it is possible to rewrite the BIOS without an SPI-programmer.
Well, crap on a cracker! I thought this was something HP used to issue a BIN file that you could flash and would clear the BIOS password. Must be something only they can (or should I say "could," because they refuse to do it any longer, stating the security of their customers is first priority). Jeez.
If this could be done, I'd be willing to pay at least $50 for it. Sadly, the only other alternative now is a replacement motherboard.
Perhaps not the motherboard, just the contents of the chip. You can buy a CH341A for $10 to flash a clean BIOS or ask local service.
I have an 8570w and need the BIOS password reset. I did get an SMC.BIN file from HP a couple of years ago but it never worked and apparently their policy no is "go buy a new computer"
I reckon I could not find the Envy thread.....and that link is for a multiple type of laptops. If you would like a mod to move my reply, have at it. My apologies if I horned in on your thread.
Hello @Mazzif I have an HP 6730b with BIOS protected by password I have lost. I have searched the internet and it looks that your solution is the only one that works (apart of the buying the new chipset suggested by HP). Unfortunately I cannot find your USB boot utility and exact procedure how to reset the BIOS password on HP 6730b. Can you help me with this issue? Thank you very much for any support. Sorry, this is wrong discussion.
Hello! I've found an HP 2570p with password and can't find a way to reset it, I cannot select any boot drive besides the hdd and the expresscard so I find myself unable to launch any usb device, am I doing something wrong here? I could provide any data you need, just tell me and I will find it Thanks to everyone for posting their experiences!
