    Hi Mazzif,

After adding the optional packages listed below to my PE, I was able to run Wndmifit64.exe from within PE.

    WinPE-WMI.cab
    WinPE-WMI_en-us.cab
    WinPE-NetFX.cab
    WinPE-NetFX_en-us.cab
    WinPE-HTA.cab
    WinPE-HTA_en-us.cab

However, I still get the following message:

MPM is not unlocked. Will not be able to set BIOS setting.
Please escalate with UUID to get SMC blob to unlock MPM.

Have you run into this before?

Wndmifit.exe still gives me a compatibility error. Not sure why.

    Thanks again

    Mazzif,

One thing I forgot to mention, is that I am trying this on a 8570p that I have not flashed the BIOS yet.
I am waiting for my female to female connectors and Pomona clip to arrive in the mail before I flash the laptop
that I don't know the BIOS password.

I'm curious if you have ever ran wndmifit on a laptop before flashing the BIOS.

    Thanks

MPM (Manufacturing Programming Mode) will be unlocked when UUID is blanked out (FFFFFFFF). Padding the $VSS store location of your BIOS dump and reflashing back is the only way I have found to do this.

I use WinBuilder to create my PE environment. I cannot speak to the guide you are using.

So it sounds like wndmifit is working in your environment, but you need your BIOS modded correctly and flashed back. I think your close!

So just to clarify, modding the BIOS to remove the password as I have demonstrated will do a few things other than just remove password. It will also reset the UUID to FFFFFFFF (blank) and Unlock MPM, and reset other data. Yes you can run wndmifit, but options are limited with MPM being locked.

just a tip for any CH341A programmer users... do it with flashrom!!
i had tried with windows and programmer 1.19 and 1.29 and wrote it wrong constantly.

1st try in flashrom worked perfect.. 2 times!

Using flashrom, I deliberately flashed wrong BIOS image to purposefully 'brick' a laptop. Powered on laptop and just flashing KB lights. Went back and flashed proper image with flashrom and recovered laptop perfectly. It is a fantastic utility.

I am using CH431A in Win7 and their own utility ( called CH431A.EXE ). Never had a problem. By the way - is this device suitable for in-system-programing?

    Hi Mazzif,

My laptop model is HP Elitebook Folio 9470m ultrabook. I am having the mpm is not unlocked and I am unable to modify the serial.
    Please for your advise.

What is the option to modify the serial number?

    any one can advise?

Does it need to use tool and device to unlock the mpm before I can edit serial.
