    Hello Everyone!

    Laptop Model: DV7-4280us
    Number under the Battery: 163D - 120

    Action that caused Brick:
Replaced bios with Advanced Menu for Insyde bios.
    Boot up was fine.
Restarted and selected dgpu Instead of Hybrid.
Boot up was was fine the first time, except the monitor was completely dimmed, and for all practicality, information was impossible to see.
Restated and was presented with BLACK SCREEN and leds indicate sound muted and WifI disabled and Cap Lock On, Unable to change.

So i follow the instruction here.
Created the USB drive with the HP Tool specific to my computer model.
Downloaded the f29 bios and opened the 01448f29.bin file with the tool.
No RSA.SIG file was created (more on that later) so I found a link that had the same bios with the sig file attatch and tried using that.
Named the file 01448.bin and 01448.SIG
Did not work. USB would light up initially, then never light again, and fan would crank really high, and laptop would get hot.
    Tried again with f23 bios.
Realized the RSA.SIG file was created while Pheonix Tool was running, then would be destroyed. I copied the file before it was destroyed.
Used same file names with same result.
Then I tried renaming them to the number under the battery, 0163D.bin and 0163D.SIG
Now my laptop apparently is looping with the following sequence:
    1: Turns On
2: Power Light is STEADY, WIFI LIGHT DISPLAY DISABLED, SOUND LIGHT DISPLAY DISABLED, CAPS LIGHT DISPLAY ON
    3: Fan Cranks up gradually.
4: USB Flashes SEVERAL TIMES STEADILY
5: LAN light Flashes 1 TIME instantly after USB STOPS FLASHING.
    6: Fan Shuts off.
    7: Steps 3 through 6 repeat infinitly.

So changing the file names to the number under the battery has done something, but what I do not know. Any help would be greatly appreciated and any steps I should take will be followed.

you did not create USB UEFI with the diagnostic dload.
take hdd out .. put files in the proper place in usb:\Hewlett-Packard\Bios\Current\

Just wanted to come back and thank LatinMcG so much for his help with my Bios files. After leaving it for a while frustrated I couldn't get it going again I have revisited it and managed to revive the HP G6 and successfully updated it to the later F.66 Bios. The only thing is now it has a graphics card problem......I have just repasted the heatsink with a thin copper shim...its better but still plays up. I wish there was a way to choose either the Intel or the Radeon graphics as a default!
    Thanks again LatinMcG
    Cheers,
    RXII

first identify the board id under battery.
make UEFI USB and get the DECrypted .bin and .sig to do the flash recovery.

reset battery leaves the bios that is currently in it, not some magic backup unless HDD HP TOOLS has a backup .bin with a matching .sig

This issue appears (for my dv6-7214) to be related to setting up an ssd msata drive as my C drive.
(there was another sata drive available, its the C drive that appears to matter)
HP Supports instructions on backing out bios update via windows B key at power up were ineffective.

I could not send my C drive to hp because of work data on it, so physically copied the drive to another sata drive, sanitized it, and installed as an sata internal drive.
To my pleasant surprise, this allowed the bios to finish installing, so my guess is it depends on the sata bus having a drive, and cannot use the msata drive for bios update.

Once booted, I reinstalled my msata ssd drive as c drive, and it boots again.

Lesson, if you have an ssd msata C drive on your HP laptop, don't upgrade your bios,
if you fell into this hole, you can just mount your msata C drive as sata with an adapter to get bios reloaded. Then put it back in msata slot.

    i have compaq presario cq61-310em
    under battery it says 363f-100

    code blinking indicates bios error

downloaded sp45774 to create usb uefi but program just starts and crashes, created hp_tools with another sp
downloaded newest bios from hp, sp48895 - but only got 363FF15.fd inside.

    i rename it to 363F.fd
when ever i try to use that phoenixtool 2.14 i only get single file 363F_SLIC.fd, no sig no anything

when i put it on usb stick and use win+b metod usb starts up beeps couple of times and just resets on next startup it does nothing

tried with several usb drives always the same problem, sometimes even only 1 beep before it resets

    yes, took out hdd, battery

it does say recovery filenames are f.bi? it creates BIOS0.BIOS (2mb size) and BIOS5.BIOS (4mb size) files while it's working and DUMP folder filled with lot of .rom files

after program is done all i get is 363FF15.fd and 363FF15_SLIC.fd renaming to 363F.fd and 363F.bin also gives me only XXXX_SLIC.xxx

size of USB is not issue since i've done it with 1gb, 4gb, 8gb and 16gb drives and always the same ending i tried older bios f03 but also get only single file

Help!! I got a bricked HP g4-2149se system that refused to turn on after a BIOS update. I have tried all the steps throughout this thread but to no avail. My system does not read my USB flash disk even after i but the BIN and SIG files on it. I used a sandisk cruzer 4gb. But from the log i extracted from the HDD, BIOS update completed but there was an error code immediately after that. I am so confused on what to do next. Please kindly help. I bought the unit from USA but i live in Nigeria. You can imagine the cost of sending it back. Help!
    Thanks in advance

Bricked my Toshiba e305-s1995 using this method. Insterted flashdrive with BIOS.fd file on it, did the ESC + ~ sequence, the computer read the flashdrive (light on the flashdrive blinked) and restarted a few seconds later to a blank screen.

Won't read the USB flashdrive anymore at all, but attempts to read from CD if i put BIOS.fd file on a CDRW, but still doesnt boot up - just blank screen on startup.
