hello I have a Hp dv7 3028ca and I have the caps lock and num lock flashing twice. I can't figure out what files I need to download. and I am not familiar with phoenix tool. I don't know how to use it. Please help me..
Hi, I've just bricked a HP Pavilion DV7-4040ed (Insyde EFI). I've flashed sp55299_AdvancedMenu_ByCamiloml.exe which initially worked. Finally some fan control! When setting the switchable graphics from 'auto' to 'dGPU' I got the same result as described here: forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/31220-Help-needed-to-unbrick-HP-dv4075sf Black screen, no boot, no image on hdmi or vga, caps lock not working and mute/wifi LEDs on red. Resetting the CMOS (by removing batteries and HP's power button method) didn't do anything at all. Sure wish I'd seen the post above before changing that fatal setting. I did get somewhere using the instructions in this thread though. A HP_TOOLS UEFI USB stick would flash a few times (8 seconds). When putting the BIOS files on it (01448.BIN/01448.SIG) the USB stick would flash for 30 seconds. After that, the caps lock key works (light turns on and off) and after pressing several keys each keypress gives a 'beep'. So I think I've got something right. Is the computer waiting for a confirmation? Or displaying an error? It's very hard to tell what's going on without a screen. I've tried older BIOS revisions but I'm getting the same result. Oh, and booting with Win+B, the four arrows or several other combinations makes no difference at all. No beep, no feedback and it's booting the USB stick all the same. Are there other key combinations to try? Thanks for reading.
It's 144B-100. I've already tried both 144B.BIN and 0144B.BIN (waited 5 minutes on each try) but the stick only flickers for 8 seconds with those names. The computer eventually reboots and does this again infinitely, just as if there's no BIOS file. Renaming the files back to 01448.* causes the 30 seconds of activity and the keyboard to start working (but not the screen) so I think that is the right name.
Thanks for the help so far, really appreciated . Every drive (DVD/HDD) is disconnected and all batteries have been removed. sp50286.exe only contains the diagnostics, not the bios update utility? I'm using sp60844.exe. I've also tried cloning the HP_TOOLS volume from the laptop drive. Same result, it boots something but it doesn't seem to flash anything. I've just tried both the BIOS files you posted (renamed them to 01448.BIN/SIG). Same result; it's doing something but doesn't appear to flash Perhaps it's not autoflashing/going to the recovery environment because my BIOS is not corrupt? It definitely doesn't seem to boot an OS tho... If I just could see something this wouldn't be so hard.
if its not bios.. then i fear its the chipset needing reflow check your HP Tools partition for BIOS folder see if it has a bin and sig
Hi, I have HP dv6 3141ea, i tried to update BIOS but in middle of update computer freezes, when i turn it on i saw just black screen and computer restarts every 20 seconds. I read lots of post but to me it's just cosmos.. I downloaded http : / / h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=5056942&prodNameId=5056943&swEnvOID=4059&swLang=13&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ob-93558-1 installed and make usb HP_TOOLS, i looked inside and there is few folders, such as Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\current and they all are empty, so where these .bin files come from mentioned in all previous posts? only in Hewlett-Packard\BIOSUpdate where is files but only .efi .sig? as you can see i'am not a smart man. Can someone help?
Status update: Got another working DV7-4040ed (borrowed from someone). The HP_TOOLS partition on that did have a 01448.bin and 01448.sig (so that's indeed the correct name). Same result with those. Then I tried booting the working DV7-4040ed in recovery mode with windows+B. Guess what: screen doesn't even turn on and it seems to boot into some recovery (HD light) and just hang/wait there, exactly the same results as with the borked BIOS. I had to power down the machine and start normally in order for the screen to turn on again. I was relieved that it did to be honest, with all the problems I've seen with this laptop I wouldn't be surprised if I triggered a firmware/BIOS bug... I'm concluding that the insyde recovery function is broken on this laptop model, perhaps due to the dual graphics thing. That or I'm doing it wrong. Either way, the only option left is something like bios-service-center.com/product_info.php?products_id=18669 . If anyone knows other places to order preprogrammed BIOS chips or has experiences with these guys I'd be glad to hear. [rant] Once this thing runs again I'll get rid of it asap. It overheats without underclocking and even when the CPU is set to 80% it can reach 85-90°C which is one reason why I wanted the unlocked BIOS (fan curve). More if the Intel GPU is enabled which sits next to the CPU so always leave it on the faster (and cooler) ATI chip. Performance is much lower than it should be (my cheap-ass Dell with i3-20xx outperforms it by 70% with linpack while not even getting hot) and the thing doesn't even run Windows 8 without hacked drivers (thus losing brightness control) because HP refuses to release new ones for this two year old laptop. Oh yeah, sound and trackpad are both horrendous compared to even the cheapest budget laptops (which these were not). Sound is so bad some phones actually do better... only good thing about this laptop is the design (textured metal <3) and the powerful GPU [/rant]
its likely the gpu solder needs reflow or reballing (thin board warps and causes issues with balling) .. ive seen dv7 do that a lot. yes ati
Hi, I have a DV6Z-7000. Was trying to replace the processor, A6-4400m with A10-5750m, and after it was done I got the following symptoms. Then I swapped the processor back in hoping that it would go back to normal, but it did not work. The laptop automatically turns on when I plug in the power and caps light is blinking constantly FOREVER. I looked on the HP website and it said it was a BIOS authentication failure. System Board ID: 1831 The current BIOS: F.22 Here are the steps that I made. Downloaded UEFI and created partition on USB. Downloaded the F.22 BIOS from HP extracted: 182D.BIN Ran PhoenixTools and it gave me an error and said: "Not Phoenix/Dell/Insyde/EFI BIOS" Did I download the wrong BIOS or something? Please advise, thank you.
Happy end! I can imagine why. With turbo mode enabled this CPU gets to 100°C very fast (and starts to down-clock) without using the GPU at all. It shares the heatsink with the ATI GPU... Luckily this was not the problem here. This laptop always ran underclocked (CPU max 80% in energy settings) to work around the inadequate cooling and with the 'fan always on' BIOS setting enabled. Since I was able to replicate the black screen on a working DV7-4040ed when trying windows+B I figured I could take the chance. I've just successfully replaced the 4MB EEPROM with the one I ordered at bios-service-center.com (very fast, sent the same day) and 'poof', screen came up. It's running fine again! Here's an image of the new EEPROM for your enjoyment (before cleaning the rosin flux): View attachment 24121 . It's located between the northbridge(?) and the GPU next to the CMOS battery. So I think it came down to a what seems to be a broken recovery mode... This machine does have a second 512KB EEPROM which is probably responsible for initiating a recovery but to this date I haven't been able to get it to work with the instructions here or HPs instructions even on a healthy BIOS. Just the same as what I've described in my previous posts. Maybe it wasn't updated for switchable graphics or w/e when they rushed out this machine? The factory OS it shipped with was also broken so that isn't too far fetched I think. Or I was still doing it wrong. Luckily it doesn't matter anymore now
new hp bios wont open in PhoenixTool. so therefore no .SIG so recovery wont work. and its 0182D.bin not 182D.bin
HP DV6-2056el BIOS recovery Hi, I'm trying to find the correct bios file I should use to restore my laptop BIOS (HP DV6-2056el), in case something will go wrong with a modded BIOS. The first problem I have is that each archive contains 2 bins and I don't know which one is the right one: sp48953 (rev.F1C) 363CF1C.bin 3658F1C.bin sp50586 (rev.F1D) 363CF1D.bin 3658F1D.bin Regardless to which file/version I use with Phoenix tool, no .BIN oe .FD file is created, nor the relative .SIG file. Instead a bunch of .rom files (about 260) is created in the dump folder and a couple of files show up in the main one (BIOS5.BIOS and BIOS0.BIOS). Is that a case of too recent BIOS? It's from 2010. If that's so, is there a way around it? There's a sig file on my HP_TOOLS partition but no BINs: theanimationbaker.com/bios/hp_tools.jpg (copy link in browser to see content) I did manage to dump the current BIOS from my own laptop, using Universal BIOS backup toolkit: I get a .ROM file (1536kb). Would it be enough if I paired it up (using the right naming of course) with the .SIG file from HP.TOOLS partition? Is there a safe way to test it (my BIOS currently runs fine). Is there anything I'm doing wrong? I would appreciated any hint you could give me! Thank you!
look under battery for REV that should tell us which file it needs from reading platform.ini some models dont use RSA signed bios so it does not create .bin.dec file
Thank you for answering! My wrong, the mainboard model ID (which is the same as the label under the battery) is: 363E. I forgot to mention it. However, phoenix tool gives me different recovery names: E.BIN, C.BIN, C.BIN (don't know why it gives C.BIN twice) Which one would you say is the right file to be renamed and used as a bios: 363CF1C.bin or 3658F1C.bin? Also, is there a safe way to test its operability? Thank you!
