    Hi there,

I bricked my dv7-7106ei last night :eek:after installing updates from the official HP drivers site. I installed Win7 on my new 256gig mSATA drive and kept getting unknown devices in device manager even after windows update and checking for updated drivers.
I reverted to the HP site and downloaded the latest of all drivers I could get which unfortunately also included a bios update ver F.13 . I ran the sp*%*&^*.exe, it completed and shut down windows. After that the power light comes on but screen remains black.

I downloaded the previous bios ver F.0A, which was on the laptop initially, and did the procedure as described by kalisti5. My bin file was named 01818.bin. Phoenix created RSA.SIG and 01818.bin.DEC which I renamed to 01818.SIG and 01818.BIN respectively.
I did the HP_TOOLS UEFI USB stick thing and copied the 2 files to the current folder.
Then the winkey+b to no avail. Not even a flash of light from the USB stick. HELP:confused:

The waranty people tell me it isn't covered as it is a 'software problem'.

Thanks, I will report back once I removed my mSATA, it sits under the top cover. What a mission.
I have tried two different 2gb ones. Will also try a 4gb trancend.

I think it was Sp57427. The bios update which broke everything was sp58934 and the one I am trying to restore is sp57274.

I use phoenix 2.11. Do I specify SLIC and SLP then press Go to get the file 01818_SLIC.bin? Or do I just use the first 2 files generated, RSA.SIG and 01818.bin.DEC and rename like on first post?

1st 2 files generated.. not _SLIC

create the UEFI USB with sp57448.exe
then copy the renamed files to the bios\current\ and \previous.

Will do. I am building up the courage to disassemble the whole laptop again to get to the mSATA drive.

Ok, here is what I used.
    A. 32gb sandisc cruzer edge formatted fat32.
    B. Sp57448.exe ran, it with no other usb stick in plugged in and selected USB.
    C. Downloaded the bios it came with from hp and extracted 01818.bin from the exe using 7zip.
    D. Dl'ed phoenix 2.11 and selected the bin file.
    E. Copied the Dec and sig files it generated to the current and previous folders and renamed them to 01818.BIN and 01818.SIG respectively.
    F. Removed battery, power cable, mSATA drive, hdd and dvd drive. Cmos battery for good measure.
    G. Inserted usb stick in left side, held down winkey+b and connected power, then pressed power button until it lit up.
    H. Message came up about boot block with progress bar and hey ptesto, one un-bricked dv7.
My unmeasurable gratitude goes to LatinMcG and of course kallisti5 for the original post.

    Hi,

I have a HP Elitebook, tried to flash the newst BIOS with rompaq, but always yelling enter bios administrator password, dont works, and its not the password of my administrator. So I tried to use the newst BIOS with phoenix tool, but only gives me those files:

    BIOS0.BIOS & BIOS4.BIOS renamed them to 68CVD.BIN & 68CVD.SIG

Then starting the prepared HP Tools Stick with Windows + B but only fan is running at full speed, waited half an hour nothing happens at all :-/

    Need a hint ?!?
