Thanks for your reply LatinMcG. I've been trying the WIN-B recovery for a few days but somethings just not clicking. I formated USB FAT HP_TOOLS and renamed file to .bin, B.bin, C.bin(ref in phoenixtool266) and I get black screen and no beeps but the USB drive does get accessed like its scanning between USB and HD but thats as far as it goes (constant scanning). This was the reason I was trying to flash in DOS. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Victory!
Hi! I am working for days on the "Product Information not valid" (Product Configuration ID) issue on a HP Probook 6550b. I already tried NbDmiFit-Tools, but nothing worked. I'm not able to set the "Product Configuration ID" I came accross a post of Mazzif in a different thread here and think, that maybe my BIOS is to new to set the "Product Configuration ID": My idea was to downgrade the BIOS from F60 to F20, F21, F22, F23 or F50. I installed the "HP UEFI Support Environment" on the laptop in a new partition, and tried to downgrade the BIOS there. To do this, I extracted the cab-file of an old bios and tried a BIOS rollback, but that didn't work. So I tried to open the bin-file with "phoenix tool v2.14". Instead of getting "XXXX.bin.DEC" and "RSA.SIG", I only get a "DUMP" folder, a Logfile, a file named "BIOS0.BIOS" and a file named "BIOS5.BIOS". Maybe anyone could help me with this issue or has a different approach to get rid "Product Information not valid" (Product Configuration ID) issue. Regards
Hello LatinMcG! First of all, thanks for replying to my problem. I tried booting in EFI-mode and using the "Brand11" directory as I thought, that my ProBook 6550b is maybe a 2011 BNB machine. The result was: ME state configuration: Vpro disabled Management Engine enabled Descriptor locked Then a message appeared that I have to restart the unit and disable UEFI Boot Mode, and that I need to uncommit this system before you can use this tool to commit ME/vpro. Then I hit "1" and got: HpMeBrand Utility is not supporting this platform Status = 1 That didn't get me any further, so I ran "NbDmiFit.bat" and here are the results: When I display my current settings ("D") the following info appears: Soft Stylus is not supported FasLook is Off Current Config ID = blank TPM is OFF When I programm the settings ("P") the following info appears: TPM must be set to ON in all countries except China I chose "2" for platform HP ProBook 6550b After entering the Product Number I did NOT include the Model P/N in the Model String The result was: Failed to write SKU number Failed to write model name CpQAmt delivered the following infos: VPro Disabled Descriptor locked Management Engine enabled Flash Protection Override disabled I also did "wndmifit" in Windows and generated a BiosSettingsRead.txt, which I include here: Code: English ; ; Settings file originally created by BIOS Config Utility ; Version:3.0.13.1 ; Date:2017.03.08 ; Manufacturer Hewlett-Packard Product Name HP ProBook 6550b System ID 146D Universal Unique Identifier(UUID) 4131071DACF5E611A01E26C25F06A059 System Configuration ID Processor Type Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU M 540 SKU Number VZ245AV Warranty Start Date 000000 Sunday *Disable Enable Processor Speed 2.53GHz Monday *Disable Enable Tuesday *Disable Enable Wednesday *Disable Enable Thursday *Disable Enable Friday *Disable Enable Saturday *Disable Enable Set Alarm Time 00:00 Memory Size 4096 MB ROM Date 11/10/2015 ROM BIOS Version 68CDE Ver. Hi! I tried NbDmiFit-2.0F and NbDmiFit-2.09. NbDmiFit-2.0F with UEFI mode on and NbDmiFit-2.09 and some older versions, where I can't find the version number, with UEFI mode off. Am I missing further tools to prepare the laptop, for example to set TPM ON or to uncommit the system? Regards
hmm i had a hp 2000 that would not work. i had a similar with dif config id was w7 not w8 like other. i made backup EEPROM.dat and wrote it to other pc and worked.. only after i had switched version. try drain power from system 30 secs power button with no batt or power cord.. then reset bios defaults and retry dos usb. the recovery is 68CDE.bin and sig from the cab.. the rom.sig if im correct renamed to 68CDE.sig
Hi! I tried this, but unfortunately without any success. Is there a possibility to edit the .bin-file? I read something about a Phoenix Bios Tool, but didn't find it anywhere. All of the links have expired. As a downgrade does not work, my idea would be, to change the version-number and the date of an old Bios (F20) to a higher version (F61). The Bios version I'm using at the moment is the latest (F60). As on the DOS-bootdisk, which can be created out of the spxxx.exe from HP, only the bin-file is copied, the information has to be stored there. This would be a further attempt, but I don't know where to hit Shift + F1 and ADV (BIOS or DOS)? Regards
not all hp 2000 or all hp use the advanced menu.. it was a hacked version of the dmi tool to allow it. forget downgrade via recovery.. use spi programmer like cheapo ch341a
Hi LatinMcG! Sorry to bother you again. I will get a second HP ProBook 6550b and could try the solution you did with backing up the EEPROM.dat. Which tool did you use to backup and restore the EEPROM.dat? Regards
Hi LatinMcG! I was able to sucessfully read the settings of a different ProBook 6550b with Bios 68CDE Ver. F.01 (with the option 'S' - Save Current System Information) When I try to write to my ProBook 6550b (with Bios 68CDE Ver. F.60) (with the option 'R' - Restore System Information Created by Save Command) I get the following information: There was an error restoring the previous model / serial number information. Make sure the information saved matches the system you are restoring to! Process aborted or an error occured. Is it because the Bios Versions are not the same, or is it maybe because they may not have the exact same specs?
likely the specs but could be bios version or nbdmifit version.. u can edit the .dat file to match better
the next menu was a hacked version i believe by TTAV that only worked on a few models.. sorry i dont know for sure.
most bios past sp62xxx .. go to the dloads and look in the diagnostic section and see if it says uefi diagnostic.. thenit likely is. try opening with phoenix tool. if it shows just a .bin no .DEC then its not.
