HP mediasmart server software Q

I have dumped my BIOS and used the SLIC checker and it doesn't find anything so this would confirm what sebus is saying.

 

Yes..i know we can do it the old way..Was just trying to do it with the HP boot image..Will report back after testing..

Kudo's to danivtec! Restoring the server with the images worked. Finally an X510 with English OS ;-) Had to use a crossover UTP though, I presume router blocked some broadcasts ...

 

BIOS on the mediasmart. No SLP strings found.

 

Of course the is SLP string (how otherwise would HP MSS activate the underlying W2K3?)

The string is:

BIOS=F000,E840,6,HPQOEM

Of course none of the tools in use (like oembios.exe 1.1) knows this, so they will NOT report it
After all each such tool only checks known locactions

Use HWDirect to dump memory range 000FE840 with length 6

Anyone dare to add slic 2.1 to the BIOS by dumping then reflashing? (A mediasmart server)

When Vail RTM's and HP bring out a new mediasmart server. I would imagine they will use SLIC 2.1 for OEM activation.

You could probably use a loader though.

Thanks for replying Sebus. I read the whole post and have some questions:
- I'm assuming that the 'SnapEX..." is some sort of a disk image. Do I need to use some sort of tool with a boot disk to restore it? Does vmware converter recognize this format?
- I'm trying the "mediafire" links from your later post but "part2" and "part15" are missing. are they same as "rapidshare" links in 'post27'? If not, could you please post 'mediafire' links to part2 and part15 again.
- I also noticed that there are two snapshot files named .sn1 and .sna. What are they? Do I need both of them?
- Do I still need to setup the bios string in vmware image?

Sorry to dredge up an old thread but I'm desperate here!

I have an X510 Data vault unit but it is stuck in French - and I understand the only way to get it in English is to do a System Restore. Of course, my disks are in French too! HP are refusing to sell me new discs..

Is anyone able to revive the above torrent or send the files to me? I understand the software for the EX490/495 can be used on the data vault and won't make a difference? I've also managed to find a 10-art RAR version of the torrent online but part 1 is missing on all the sites.

I'd be so grateful if anyone could help me out here - I'm stuck at a dead end.

P.S. I notice my restore CD is ~4gb and the torrent is 2.2gb - is that a problem?

Been there and it sucks. All I wanted to do was change the language of my EX490.
In the end I hacked an English EX480 image onto it.

Anyway PM me which rar of the ex490 image you need.
